I can't use my Microsoft Account balance to purchase games!?

I just spent $9.99 on a game that I could have used the $10 in my Microsoft account balance for (I couldn't pay for it with my account balance because it was too expensive with the tax). I was told that to split the balance between my credit card and the
money and my account, I had to select my credit card first and then select "confirm purchase," and there would be a window that would ask if I wanted to use the money in my account to pay for the the rest. That did not happen. Did I do something wrong?

Not all content can be purchased using split payment. So that could be the issue.

Was this on your console or website? The website is not capable of using funds in your MSA. You must use your console for now.

I did use my console to buy the game when this happened, so that can't be the case. Thanks for your input, though.

So when will the website be capable of using funds in my MSA? I'm trying FREE products with a balance in my MSA and I'm getting the message from the website that "You have no valid payment options on file."

I seemed to work OK for a free Xbox One game, but having issues with the Xbox 360 games and marketplace items.

It worked for Xbox One because that site accepts the MSA as a payment method whereas the 360 still doesn't. As Smwutches says, there's no official word yet on if or when this will change.

Can you do a split payment on Child of Light? I got these 15 bucks sitting here cause I did what the original poster did with my street fighter upgrade purchase and ended up paying for the whole thing with my credit card. This is just really awful as a business
practice to have us completely in the dark when we click "confirm purchase" and its a crap shoot whether or not it will use the money on the account or not.

Yes, account balance can be used to purchase game pass, i just purchased it today part of it was paid with a partial balance i had on my microsoft account and the rest was paid with my paypal account.

You can't use the money in your Microsoft account to purchase content from the Xbox 360 Marketplace.

To resolve this issue, purchase the item on your Xbox 360 console, where you can use your Microsoft account balance to make purchases.

I purchased 2 £10 xbox gift cards then when I redeemed them both they were converted into Microsoft account balance. I buy this fortnightly for my children and I now have £20 credit on Microsoft but not on the Xbox. I can't use this account balance to
purchase xbox credit. Its ridiculous.

Yes, I was trying to make the purchase on the website. How am I supposed to know that I can't use my MS account balance on the website? Not everyone stalks the forums before making a purchase!

The website was more than happy to accept the prepaid code!

If I can't make purchases on the website with my MS account balance, it should

#1 - clearly state that I can't use MS account balance to pay for purchases via website

AND

#2 - it shouldn't accept the prepaid card code on the website!

Now how do I use the MS account balance?
