I can't update/install on my external hard drive.

I have a WD MyBook 2TB external hard drive and suddenly one day "Xbox Fitness" and "Killer Instinct" two titles I have installed to the external needed an update and the update failed and said "Installation Stopped" and any time I attempt to update them
it goes right back to Installation Stopped. I thought it was just a weird glitch but today I signed up for EA Access and it's doing it to EVERY GAME I try to install to the external. I can't even move anything from the internal to the external either!

HOWEVER! I can move from the external to the internal and play any existing titles on the external so the drive does work. It just seems to somehow went into some read-only mode if I had to guess?

I've done several hard reset's. Tried every USB port. Disconnected from the internet. Console is fully updated.

How To Install Update If Internal Drive Is Full

I have Destiny installed on my internal hard drive. There is a Destiny update that I am trying to install, but I get an error that there is not enough space on my internal drive. I have installed a 2TB expansion drive, but the update will not install to
the external drive even though it is recognized by the system. Do I have to move the entire game to the external for the update to install? If so, how do I do that without losing my saved data?

Xbox One Hard Drive already to small.

So when i buy an external hard drive do will that add on to my console storage or do games i install install to the external hard drive and my xbox one will play them from there? just curious

Found a solution. Ended up moving as much content to my internal and then formatted the drive and now its letting me install things again just fine. Just going to take awhile to download everything again. =(

Could be the external hard drive causing the issue then it won't be the first time I seen errors appearing after updates on external hard drives. Try installing it on internal drive instead if you can?.

Are you using an External hard drive? A corrupted External hard drive may cause issues as well such as deletion of some installed games.

Yes, I have an external hard drive connected to my Xbox, and the game appears to be installed on the external hard drive.

I've just finished downloading/installing the newest system update for xbox one. The xbox now no longer recognizes my external hard drive. I have tried numerous times restarting the system, as well as unplugging/replugging in the external hard drive.

Note that game updates can only be installed on the drive where the game is, they can't go to other drives.

For example, game is installed on internal hard drive where there is only 5GB free but update is 6GB+. The game can't be updated because there isn't enough storage, even though there is plenty of free storage on external drive/s.

Solution, move this game or other games to the other drive. Update can now be applied.

I can't update/install on my external hard drive.
