I can't send messages using my 360.

I don't know why I can't send messages to people; I only tested on people who aren't my friends, I checked the area that tells me who I am able to communicate with and it says I can communicate with everyone. So then why is my 360 not letting me msg others?

I looked for a forum in 360 support, but couldn't find the right one so I'm posting my problem here.

Can't send messages

Ever since I got my xbox 1 and logged into it using my account I can't send messages from my xbox app or xbox 1. I can only send them from my xbox 360.

You can actually send messages via chat, but you can't talk with your voice. (I've sent messages to my friends using my Xbox One to their 360 consoles.)

 

Maybe you sent too many message that can happen. You have to wait for bit then it should let you sent message again but don't sent too many.

 

Hello There andham1, You can always send a new message to Xbox Live Gamer-Tags by Clicking Here You can send messages to your friends or recent players
and other Xbox live members all from Xbox.com without using your console.



Note gamer-tags are also tied to services like Zune or games for windows live. If a gt doesn't exist on Xbox, it might be in use on one of those services. If you try sending the gamer-tag you want a friend request and it says it’s
not a valid gamer-tag that just means it isn't used on Xbox live, but it could be used for Zune or gfwl. I thought this Information would help you understand andham1, Good luck,

If you are still experiencing problems with the Communications System I`d like you to make a new topic post at 09 - Xbox 360 Account Suspensions & Console Bans they deal with Inquiries about account suspensions, forced Gamertag changes, console
bans, and other enforcement actions. Maybe you had some sort of enforcement action such as Communication suspension.



Communication suspensions

Communication suspensions are imposed because of inappropriate conduct during communication activities on Xbox Live. The suspension blocks a Gamertag from accessing any communication features on Xbox Live. These include text messages, voice messages,
video communications, Upload privileges, in-game chat, and party chat.

The length of suspension depends on the severity of the offense. Temporary suspensions usually end at approximately the same time of day as when the suspension was issued.

How you are notified

An email message is sent to the address that is associated with your Xbox Live account. Suspensions end at approximately the same time the suspension was issued and not at the beginning of the calendar day, so the suspension may not end until later
in the day specified in the suspension message.

I did further testing and found out that I am still able to send messages to those on my friends list, but I cannot send messages to those who aren't on by either the 360 or Xbox.com. I not sure if I am under a communication ban, for I don't remember ever
getting an email saying I was, and that I can still talk to those not on my friends list in party chat.

 

You can go into Private Setting and change it.

 

Interesting question: what's your rep like on the 360?

Does it say a few people have avoided you and such?

Another Ambassador and I were discussing this recently as he noticed several threads where people were saying they could no longer send messages to non-friends, and so far the only common link we've seen between them was that complaints had been filed against
them for communication. It would be interesting to see if the same applies to you.

 

As well as looking on your Xbox 360, sign into
https://enforcement.xbox.com/ and see what that site is saying about your reputation. It will give you a breakdown of reputation and reports filed against you (as well as by you) over the past six months.

 

My rep says about 50% people avoid me, which kinda hurts but I guess I deserved it in some way, and I'm not sure how the other percentages work out but under Communication I have 4% for both Trash talk and Language and 0% for disruptive. Hope that this
helps in some way and that I'm not the only one who is affected by this. Enforcement says no one has filed Feedback on within the last 6 months.

And now that I think about it, this problem started after I replied to a message someone sent me after a game on Warface, for camping on a high perspective point, he sent a message back and when I tried to send one back to him; it failed (I though that he
just blocked comm. with me and that is why it failed). I no longer have the message from whom sent me it.

 

I'm having the same problem with not being able to send messages. I'm not banned, its not my setting and its only to none friends. If i add the person i can send messages and i havent exceeded my limit because i try when i havent sent a message all day been
happening for weeks. but i dont send messages often to none friends. so idk what going guess xbox just sucking.

 

Iv been having the same problem for over a month has anyone found a way to fix this??

 

I'm having the exact same issue and my problem has been escalated. I am having ZERO luck with my complaint and I first contacted xbox support via phone on 5/29/2014. I keep getting a response of "the gamertag shows to be fine." Here's the kicker though:
I tested this problem (sending msgs to ppl not on friends list whether it be voice or text form through the console) and it worked as it should with no hiccups. It only fails under my primary gamertag so it just HAS to be a gamertag issue.

I wonder if someone on Microsoft's end somehow suspended communication privaledges to non friends only on the specific gamertag. Though fyi, I NEVER received a warning or notice of any kind of communication suspension if that even is the case. And every
support person I've communicated with for xbox has said my account should be fine with no reprimands so who knows!?

All I know is I've been a faithful member of this service for 7 years but the shoddy handling of my situation makes me wonder if maybe I should go PS4 for this next console generation... I'm beyond frustrated.

 

I've been having the problem for over a few months now. It will let me SOMETIMES send messages to non friends but other times it absolutely will not send! I have no issue sending text or voice messages to people on my friends list.

I called 1-800-4MYXBOX twice and they had never heard of this problem and basically had no idea how to fix it. The second time I called, the guy had me do all these different steps including reset my router/modem but still no results. I'm paying a yearly
fee for a service that is not allowing me to access all its features.
