I can't join multiplayer games on minecraft?

I've been having this issue for a while. Whenever I try to join a friend's game if they are on Xbox, my phone will spend a large amount of time trying to locate the server, before giving up and disconnecting me. I've tried using both WiFi and mobile data.
My friends can join my games just fine, and I can join their games as long as they are also on PE. I use an iPhone 7.

I get the same message too for Minecraft. Can't join theirs and they can't join mine. I successfully joined a chat party once. Every other xbox game I play online multiplayer works fine though. I don't get it. Its really frustrating!

I would check your NAT type it will help with some of the issues, I have had the same issue and this helped solve my issues

This could be an issue with your internet or their internet. You may also want to double check you're signed into to your mobile version of Minecraft with an Xbox Live profile. Check the status of Xbox Live for outages in service and also check with your
internet service provider for internet outages and if you can have your internet speed/strength tested.

Also have them check for updates for their versions of Minecraft and check the app store for an update on yours just in case.

An organizer in an Xbox family group can manage settings for members who are in the family group.

Sign in to your Microsoft account.https://www.xbox.com/

Sign in at Xbox

Select your Gamertag, and then select the More actions button (…).

Select Xbox settings, and then select Privacy & online safety.

Note Because you’re accessing sensitive info, you may have to enter your password or passkey.

Select the Gamertag for the child account that you want to manage.

Select either the Xbox One/Windows 10 Online Safety tab or the Privacy tab.

Review the current settings and update any that you want to change, and then select Submit to save the changes.

Note You must select Submit at the bottom of the page before leaving or switching to another tab. If you don't submit the changes before you move to the other tab, your changes won't be saved.

Have the member sign in and then sign out of their account on the console to make sure the changes take effect.

as I am still an adolescent, that doesn't work and I think my parents have to allow it except we don't no how and when I hover over the multiplayer bar, it says ' multiplayer is disabled. please check your Microsoft account settings.'...
