I can't change the microsoft account linked to my xbox live account how do I fix this?

Hello, I have been using the xbox360 for a while now, and it seems I can't change the microsoft account linked to my xbox live account. Whenever I get it all said and done, I press "Yes, change" But the message "Sorry, we can't change your microsoft account.
For more info, go to xbox.com/AccountSwap" comes up. Any help would be great, thank you for your time.

How to Change your Xbox LIVE account information

Overview

It is possible to change information associated with your Xbox LIVE account like your name, address, phone number or email address.

Note: You cannot change the country that is associated with your Xbox LIVE account. If you have moved to another country and you would like to access Xbox LIVE from there, you have to create a new Xbox LIVE account in your new location.

How to Change your name, address, phone number or email on Xbox.com

1) Go to My Account and Sign In with your Microsoft Account. (This is the email and password that is associated with your Xbox LIVE account).

2) Make the changes you want to your billings account information and then click Save.

How to Change your name, address, phone number or email on your console.

1) Sign in using your Xbox LIVE gamertag.

2) Proceed to Settings, and then select Account.

3) Select Your Information, and then go to Billing Information.

4) Sign In with your Microsoft account password.

5) Change your billing account information and then click Done.

In case you want to change the billing name on your Xbox LIVE account, go to Xbox.com

I'm sorry to hear this is happening. I would like to get a bit more information to further assist. By any chance do you get any error codes? Also, are you attempting to change the Microsoft account through the Xbox 360 or online through our website? Also,
the change you're attempting to make is it to update the account information such as the primary contact email?

Hi there.

Creating a fresh account would create a new email address for the new account so you would not lose the older account.

Keep in mind there is no way to transfer the old email to the new account though.

Well, that depends on what services from Microsoft does your mother use. If she used her Microsoft account for example on her office works connected to Microsoft Office applications then switching emails won't work because those services are linked to the account itself and not only by a primary email address. The email addresses or aliases of our accounts are just used for signing in purposes - it's not the account itself technically. Also, if she used a Microsoft email address like @hotmail.com, @outlook.com, etc. it cannot be transferred to a different Microsoft account.

Would there be any consequence in taking my mother's Microsoft account, and replacing the primary email address with my one? Swapping our Microsoft accounts could work but I don't want to cause any future problems for her.

Hi Joshua!

I am sorry to know about the situation. Unfortunately, it's not possible to transfer your account data or Xbox profile to a different account. It will always stay on that particular account. I am afraid we can no longer do anything about that aside from using your mother's own account. It is because a Microsoft account is a single credential to access any Microsoft products and services including Xbox.
