    I can't change my gamertag for free once?


    Everywhere i try to change my gamertag (windows xbox app, xbox 360, website) it always says i have to pay. But my first gamertag change is free, I've never changed my gamertag. I still have the same when from when i got my xbox 360. Please tell me why this
    is happening.

    I have no recollection of this change. Why would i change my name from 1 pre-assigned name to the next? Doesn't make any sense.

    Your activity feed shows you changed your gamertag 2 days ago (DishierCamp7542 is now known as ResignedIce5676). so you have already used your free gamertag change. You would need to pay to change it to something else.

    I remember when I first created my account and the list came up for a variety of names. I DID NOT choose any of those. And instead opted to create my own. I think if you did that as well, that may count as your "Free name change" because technically, you
    did change your name.

    XTG72 is correct.

    If you opted to create your own when you first created your account, the option to change it for free is not available. Sorry for the inconvenience!

    gamertag problems

    If you've made the account BEFORE they started giving the option to change it once for free, then you can't change it for free.

    You'll have to buy 800 points and change your gamertag.

    I ended up downloading my old profiles, but it wants me to pay 800 points to change that name. According to xbox policies I should be able to change my xbox gamertag once free of charge - "If you created your gamertag when you signed up for Xbox LIVE, you

    Is there something preventing this name change for free, and will the old gamertag definitely be free'd up once I change it so I can change my current name "FUBAR PhD" to tptass?

    Gamertag Change

    You're allowed to change your Xbox gamertag once for free. If you're trying to change your gamertag for a second time, You'll have to pay for the gamertag change.

    I changed my gamertag once when I created my Xbox account but then, I decided to change it again and I had to pay around $10 I believe.

    If you were the one that choose your gamertag from the time you created the account, that would be your free gamertag change. If not, the system would provide you with a generic gamertag, which would entitle you to a free gamertag change.
