I cannot send messages to my friends

Sorry to hear that you're experiencing this difficulty.

If you don't mind me asking, are you trying to send messages on the Xbox app or through the console?

For either scenario, it's best for you to start off with the steps outlined on our support page entitled

Why can't I send messages from my Xbox One or the Xbox app?

When you get a chance, give those steps a try and let us know if that helped you out.

Alternatively, if it persists, let us know how you're sending them so that we could maybe get to the bottom of what's going on.

Have you checked to see if there is some enforcement action against your account?

You could check if there are any enforcement actions taken against you at https://enforcement.xbox.com

They do match. I cannot update my games, either. But, I can see my friends online and send messages, and vice versa.

I'm sorry to see you can't send messages. However, are you currently able to send messages on the Xbox.com Website?:
http://xbox.com/ . If this error is currently on the Xbox 360 please try these steps:

1.) Clear system Cache 3-Times(Settings, system, storage, hover-over the hard-drive and click (Y).

2.) Test Xbox Live connection(Settings, system, network).

3.) Re-download Profile

If theses problems still occur after the steps I provided please let us know.
