I cannot redeem my prepaid 12m Xboxlive gold code

I have a 12 Month xboxlive gold membership code that I cannot seem to redeem all day on my Xbox one, It doesn't even work when I put it on Xbox.ca site for redeeming page, It gives me the message on my Xbox one " something went wrong" and an error code underneath,

I've heard about some posts in the past that this may be a problem that has lasted rather months or something? I don't want to wait too long to get to redeem this, well not as long as I heard that some people had to wait to get it fixed,

Anyways someone from Xbox support please help, I'd call support line but for me in Canada I don't trust calling and getting someone from overseas on the phone as my last account was locked because of miscommunication :/

I checked my gold tenure on the link eG x Thee Elf posted and mine says

but yet I have no number next to my name

You see the following error code and message when you try to redeem an Xbox Live Gold membership prepaid code or token: 80169cf9

The payment option can't be used for this purchase. Please select a different payment option or add a new one.

This error message occurs when you have an active membership but auto renewal is turned off, and the payment instrument that was used to purchase that membership has been removed from your account or is no longer associated with your membership.

Solution:

Because the payment instrument has been removed from your current membership, you will not be able to add a prepaid code or token for a membership while your current membership is still active. You must wait until your current membership has ended to redeem
the token. Membership tokens do not expire. To find out when your membership will end, sign in to your Xbox account and tap or click Subscriptions to view the end dates for your, current memberships and subscriptions.

So does that mean if I reopen automatic renewel I will be able to put the code in successfully or do I wait until my current membership expires?

 

I would suggest to wait till your current membership expires and redeem it then. And setup automatic renewal and a proper payment method then, too.

anyways I don't usually use autorenewel as I like to find cheaper prices elsewhere and I do have a proper payment method already as I've purchased things on Xboxlive with no problem

 

Same with me. But I think I have it on automatic renewal but always redeem a code before my membership expires. So never had that problem yet.

 

If I remove my current credit card from my account could I add the same one again,

I'm wondering if it's just a glitch on my credit card part of Xbox.ca account

As I'm not using a different credit card for my sub if I have to do whatever

 

Removing your credit card and adding it later again is no problem.
