I cannot figure out my rechargeable batteries!

I had four rechargeable batteries that I have had for the last 6-7 years. I also have the quick charge kit, you know the stand where you plug in two batteries and it charges them. I am currently using the Halo 4 edition Xbox 360 wireless controller and
the Halo 3 ODST edition controller. Over the last 6-8 months, I will plug a battery into either of the controllers and then at 75% charge the dial on the controller starts to spin. I run the battery down to 25%, pull it out, put it on the charger and the
red LED comes on then goes off about a minute or so later. I take, what I think is a charged battery, put it in either controller and then I get to play for about a minute before the controller turns off. I try to turn the controller back on, but no dice.
I put the battery pack in to charge...red LED on for less than a minute goes to green. This happens with all four batteries. I even two new batteries and I am getting the same effect. Is this my controllers, the battery charger, the batteries? Please any
advice would be most welcome. Thanks.

    :)

    chargers

A micro USB cable will not charge rechargeable AA batteries. It should charge the battery pack from the P&C kit.

Keep in mind it cannot safely charge rechargeable AA batteries. There's more than one chemical mix used to create AA rechargeable batteries. That's why the P&C kit packs use a different set of terminals inside the controller.

    Hey mate,

Are you sure you have the battery plugged in the right way? I know it sounds silly, but I actually made this mistake myself, and it took me a while to figure out that I'd put the wireless battery in the wrong way.

If not, try out the controller with some normal AA batteries, and see if it works then. If it does, it could be an issue with the wireless battery I cannot figure out my rechargeable batteries! :(

    Cheers

It's possible it could be an issue with the quick charge kit. Those are actually not good to use and can fry your batteries. The original set of batteries are probably just so old and run down that they need to be replaced anyway.

Old batteries are a possibility. These tend to manifest themselves in more of a poor overall capacity. The play and charge kit (plugs into the 360 or a PC usb port? I hope we're talking about the same thing? Is extremely finicky. Try this. Run the controller
down (just once until it it shuts itself off atleast once.)

Turn it back on. Connect the charger cable to the controller. Once it turns red, hold down the xbox guide button (big X on controller) and leave the console alone. A full, proper charge takes seven+ hours. I did this a few times until I realized I could
just plug it into my desktop PC instead of putting the wear and tear on the insanely difficult to replace internal fan. Ridiculous, I know. And if it does go green in ten seconds, it's not at a full charge no matter what it says. The xbox slim will remain
in standby mode-you'll notice the fan keeps running. Once it goes green, the xbox shuts down. I absolutely HATE the way this charges but even at nine months old I still get about 25 hours playtime out of it...It was more like 40 hours of charge when I got
it but..meh. The charging logic in these isn't all that great to be honest.

Re-read that, you're talking about the ones that charge with the battery pack completely dismounted from controller? Just the same, follow the steps above. Run the controller until it shuts down on its own. Wait a minute or so and the voltage will once again
rise above the minimum charge threshold (don't turn the controller on)

Try charging again and report back. To be fair, I only own the play and charge kit but if I try to charge it at anything other than when its shutting itself off..it will charge for about ten seconds then report full -.- This in and of itself wears out batteries
(they don't like constantly going from almost no charge to full, though it does help keep the battery memory healthy.)

  6. Since your batteries are 6-7 years old, it's no wonder they will no longer work as they once did. Re-chargeable batteries typically have a 1,000 cycles recharge rate. They don't last forever. I'm very surprised yours have lasted so long.

As for your new batteries not charging either, I would say there is something wrong with the charger. Going from red to green in over a minute isn't right at all. A process of elimination I'm afraid. Buy new batteries and a new charger. Try your controller
with standard non-rechargeable batteries. If it works fine with these, there is nothing wrong with the controllers.

Also, for future reference I would recommend running your batteries down completely instead of waiting for them to drain to 25%. Most rechargeable batteries will retain what's known as a "charge memory" which means that each time you drain only to 25% you're
only charging to a portion of the full potential of the battery.
