    I cannot change installation driver to external SSD for XBOX Gamepass for PC


    I want to change the default installation path to the external SSD (Samsung T5) in the XBOX app for my Windows 11 laptop.

    The SSD is properly formatted as NTFS.

    In the setting, I cannot choose the F drive nor change the path directly.

    In the second picture, when I click F drive, it won't change to F but remains as C drive.

    If I click 'change path' and select F:/Games folder, the error message appears as in the first pic.

    I also tried re-formatting the external SSD but didn't work either.

    What's the Best Storage increase for XBOX SERIES X Console

    The biggest difference is that if you want to play the Series X/S version of games they must be installed on the internal SSD or the Seagate SSD Expansion card. They cannot be installed on an external USB 3.0 drive, Quick Resume will also not work with any external USB drive. Previous generation games can still be launched from an external drive.

    Personally I have the Seagate expansion SSD and prefer the speed and convenience it offers knowing that no matter what I'm installing the best version of the game and able to use all the enhancements that comes from playing on a Series X. It's worth noting that for the price, it's not much more that some of the high performances SSDs available for PC but it is definitely not cheap.

    I'd prefer not to take the random approach on this. Neither the Xfinity Gateway nor the switch have been changed in over a year, yet the problem seems to have surface right around the time I purchased a replacement PC. That lends itself to likely being a PC issue. Not sure where else to go with that though. I'm going to install the factory SSD again and see if perhaps the versions of drivers on that drive behave properly. If so I'll back up all the drivers in C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\ to a USB, reinstall my SSD, and install those specific drivers from the backup.

    Ok so on the xbox app I cannot change the driver installation and resetting and repairing doesn't work

    I'm having the same problem here, my driver (C:) is the standart, and recently i bought a seagate external HDD and it's assigned as driver (D:) in my pc and the app just doesn't change the instalation from (C:) to (D:)

    I see, remember new generation games can only be installed on the console's internal SSD, it cannot run on an external hard drive.

    Same problem for me. First of all I though the it is because I install on an external disk (SSD) but as I read, and as it is allowed by xBox PC app, we can install on any destination (including external disk).

    Hope that MS will solve the problem asap.
