I can play multiplayer but can't get Games with Gold

That's exactly it.

I have Gold. I bought a year subscription three months ago. I bought one month of Game Pass Ultimate, but cancelled it a couple weeks in and got a refund. Could cancelling that screw up my Live subscription?

I didn't get refunded the $65 for Gold and I can still play multiplayer games and message and join parties, but I cannot get the Games with Gold. It tries to charge me.

Help, please.

first of all I suggest you check your subscriptions:

If you have an active Live Gold Subscription, you should try to:

• remove and re-add the profile : https://support.xbox.com/en-US/my-account/manage-gamertag-and-profile/add-remove-account-xbox-one
• perform a full power cycle: https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/console/power-cycle-console
  
  

If you have not an active Live Gold subscription, I suggest you contact the support in order to verify the real status.

Game Pass Ultimate merges with your current Xbox Live subscription.

So let's say you've got 3 months of Gold on your account and buy 1 month of GPU, you'll have GPU for the month and once that month ends you'll still have 3 months of Gold.

Game Pass Ultimate has Gold included itself, so yes it might have messed up your subscription.

I suggest going to the store on your console and head to the Xbox Live subscription area, see if they prompt you to buy it or see a date when your subscription ends.

It sounds as if someone else has your console set as their Home and you are using their gold. That would allow you to continue to play online, but you would not be able to access games with gold or gold discounts. As stated above, you may want to verify
your subscription at http://account.microsoft.com Based on the information you gave about upgrading to Ultimate and cancelling, you would not have a current subscription.

If you have xbox live gold then you should have games with gold as well as it comes along with it.
