I can only hear sound through my tv not my headset on XBOX SERIES S

Hello, K. Thanks for reaching out! My name is Lucas. I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user just like you. I'll be happy to assist you today.

Is this issue happening with all games?

Please try to power cycle your console and connect/pair your headset again:

    1. Turn off your console and your router/modem.

    2. Unplug all the cables from both devices (power, HDMI, etc..) and wait 2 minutes.

    3. After 2 minutes, plug all the cables in again on your router/modem and wait for all the lights to show up.

    4. Plug all the cables on your console and turn it on.

    Waiting for your kind reply.

Spotify on Xbox One not playing any sound

I just woke up and tried playing games now and the problem has now extended to all sounds on my xbox. I can still hear the sounds when i use my headset just not through my tv.

How to use headphones only for sound

To my knowledge, you can not adjust game sound to come through the headphones only. However, you can do this for chat by going into the chat setting and voicing through the headset only. As far as game sound, I usually turn my tv all the way down and just
turn up the game sound on my controller with the headset adapter.

Why is it that I can only hear through my headset not my TV

    Hello DavidHintonjr,

Welcome to Xbox Community Forums. We appreciate for sharing your concern with us and we hope that you are doing well today.

We understand the inconvenience caused. We will be glad to assist you with this.

    Kindly check on the following.

    • Cable is firmly connected to the audio out port of the TV.
    • Set/adjust volume on the source to the desired listening level, use the volume on the headphone.
    • Check output sound from both your speakers and your external audio device.
    • Connect your wired headphones to the TV headphone jack (only applies to TV models that have a headphone jack) and your external audio system/soundbar to the digital optical port of your TV using a digital optical cable (not supplied).
Note: If you connect your external audio device to the TV headphone jack, the HDMI ports, or through a Bluetooth® connection, the TV can't output sound from both the TV speakers and the audio device at the same time.

    • Connections may differ depending on the devices used. Your TV Help guide provides additional information for connecting your TV to an audio system, soundbar, and headphones. Check your device manual model-specific information.
We hope it worked out well for you. If not, please reply back to this forum to let us know.

We will be glad to follow up and help you.

    Sincerely,
