I can not change this primary DNS:fe80::ea08:8bff:fe31:9232%3

hello all

when i try Network advanced settings i cant change the dns ( fe80::ea08:8bff:fe31:9232%3).

I tried withe my router dns it wont change, stay primary and my router secondary.

any suggestions.

It is also worth noting that when I try to change my DNS settings from fe80::98e4:.... etc to 87.194.XXX etc. the console will not save the settings. Is anyone else finding this?

 

Cant change DNS settings, always reverts the primary DNS to 0.0.0.0

Sounds like you're console is trying to use your router for DNS which is probably IPv6. I could be wrong and this could be a public address, but in most cases it's the same as your gateway. What error do you get when you try to change your DNS? Are you
trying to put a public DNS server in place of this? A little more info would help. Also if you don't like your ISP DNS settings, you can likely change this in your router. Routers are not really DNS servers, and just relay info off other servers. So, your
router likely has a setting for the DNS it looks to at resolving DNS. There you can change your DNS to another public DNS server, and it won't look at the ISP's servers for resolution.

 

I have recently purchased an XBOX ONE and I am having the same issue- whenever I try to change my primary DNS settings, it defaults to the following characters (or similar): fe80::1%4….

2 moths ago was not there.so my router dns gateway 192.168.1.1 as my dns.

I try to change it to google dns it will not change with no error .

when i use another router my dns gateway 192.168.1.1 as my dns.

The ISP dns info in my router is ipv4.

why that ipv6 dns appear in my XB1 dns.

I hope its not somthing bad and why i can not change it.

Like I said, it looks like you're leasing an IPv6 address. If you say that IPv6 is disabled in the router then I'm not sure why you would be getting an address like this, unless your router is pushing a public DNS server with an address like this, and bypassing
itself for DNS. I dont' think this is the case as you could have a hard time finding internal host names to communicate with.

So questions. What is your overall goal in changing the DNS? It would greatly help us know what you're trying to achieve by doing this. What error do you get when you try to change it?

If you're trying to change this to give your Xbox a static IP, then review your DHCP range, find an IP that is not in that range but on the same subnet, and set the gateway and DNS to your home router. Then ensure in your home router you have DNS server
enabled.

Dear Hydro Skillet, dear CrabbierAtol734 - apologies for piggy-backing onto this thread.

The main reason why I wish to change my primary and secondary DNS settings is purely for demand TV. As I am working away from the UK, I have a UnoTelly account that enables me to watch content that I subscribe to.

The frustrating thing is that the first day I opened my XBOX ONE (three weeks ago) I was able to change both primary and secondary. Now it’s defaulting to this IPv6. Setting i.e. fe80::1%.

As this may or may not be the same issue, please create your own thread so the community can help you based on your scenario. That said, even with this case. Depending on the router you're using and we're your located, DNS should be established during DHCP.
Unless you have a static IP address. Again tho we would need to know more about the equipment you're using, and why you need to change DNS to something other than what you're router provides. 9 times out of 10, the gateway should be your DNS point.
