    Gold can only be purchased via credit card/Paypal or by purchasing a prepaid gold card in a store. There's no way to purchase gold using currency on your account.

    Xbox Live Gold is a subscription based service. You can buy it using pre paid cards for Gold Live, credit/debit cards and paypal (in some countries)
