I can hear other people, but they can't hear me unless I'm on Kinect.

I've been fighting with this for a week now and nobody has been able to assist. I've gone through the standard troubleshooting process of doing a hard reset, verifying privacy settings are unrestricted, switching in and out different headsets, signing in
and out, making sure I'm recognized....I'm completely lost.

We are not aware of any steps that you have tried before so please bear with us as we try to help out. There was a service alert related to users being muted in a party when you originally posted this. If you are still seeing this happen you will want to
try a cold boot of the console by unplugging it for a full 5 minutes. If that step does not help then the next step will be to try a

factory reset of the console. Please be sure to keep your games and apps installed when asked to do so during this process. If you are still unable to be heard by those in your party let us know.

if you suggest something that I have already tried I am switch to PlayStation I am tired of Microsoft's bs

 

Have you checked your nat settings?

 

It would have displayed a message about NAT issues in the party with my friends if that were the issue. Also, I just checked to be sure and it's set to OPEN.

 

First few suggestions I can think off the top of my head are.

I assume you're talking about the standard headset when you say you've tried different ones?

If not and you're using different headset(s), you may need to check and see if the headset is compatible. It may also be possible that your controller needs to be updated in order to work properly with a different headset.

If you're using standard headset(s), I doubt you will need to update your controller, but it's possible I guess. Won't hurt to check. Just make sure your headset is plugged in and go to Settings > Devices & Accessories, then highlight your controller. You
should see on the screen if it needs an update.

If it isn't a compatibility issue and your controller / headset is updated, you said it's not a NAT issue... it might be possible that it's a loose connection where the headset plugs into the controller. Since you said it happens with multiple headsets,
you may want to try a different controller (if you can get your hands on one) to see if it works properly that way.

Don't know if any of this will help, but maybe it will help you narrow down what's going on.

 

One way to be 100% sure that you can be heard via your own headset is to send a voice message to someone.

Record one and then listen to it before you send it. If you get nothing but quiet then you know something is wrong with the headset and can go back to the retailer you bought it from and get them to replace it.

If you CAN hear the message you recorded then you know your stuff is working fine.

Try entering party chat via Kinect. It displays that you're communicating via kinect in the party chat menu.

Then try plugging in your headset. You should see the chat connection type switch in the chat menu. When you speak... if it's working right... then the green circle next to your name will light up as you speak.
