Hi! I am a parent and need help managing my children's Xbox profiles for their Minecraft gaming. I use the Microsoft family safety feature, but even though I am an organizer I cannot seem to change my child's settings to enable him to play Multiplayer games. I simply wish to allow my children to play Minecraft together with each other in a multiplayer world.

When I go on the child's profile (logged on through my adult account), and click on the Xbox settings tab, it automatically send me to a page with this message (pasted below).

Why can’t I change my privacy settings?

Note If you’re seeing this page, you were redirected here because you couldn’t change your privacy and online safety settings.

This is likely due to two reasons:

    • You’re using a child account that’s a member of an Xbox family group
    • You’re using an adult account that’s set as a member of an Xbox family group
In both cases, your family group’s organizer can update your privacy settings for you. However, if you’re of the age of majority (for example, 18 in the US), you can either leave your family group or be promoted to the organizer role.

Note If you were redirected to this page while trying to manage Minecraft safety settings, read through the following steps to resolve this.

For more info on managing Minecraft-related safety settings, see:

Manage a member’s safety settings to access Minecraft features

Does anyone have any troubleshooting tips for me? My children use iPads to play and we don't have an xbox or android device so the device is not actually connected to the account, just the username/gamertag. Thanks in advance!

    :)

    Hi -{[Mystical]}- ,

    Good day!

Do you have another organizer on your Microsoft family? Try to check in other parent?

Can you try and check if you are able to open the account privacy of the child?

We look forward to your response.

I am the Microsoft Family Safety Organizer and I need to adjust child privacy settings.

    Hello Fatima,

I have been on the family settings website and tried to change his settings to older ages, I have tried changing permissions to be more lenient...the problem is I do not see specifically where to allow multiplayer games or allow him to add friends or join games with friends, which is what I want to allow him to do with his siblings and me only. I have also tried adjusting our internet router settings to see if that was the issue. He was able to create his own game on Minecraft and then his siblings were able to join his game, but he still can not do the opposite...join in a game they have created. We are all on the same internet router and same family setting group. I tried changing his settings to match his siblings exactly, but they still have more freedom than him within Minecraft. I guess I just can't find which setting needs changed and where to find that setting.

    Thank you for your help!

Privacy Settings on Xbox App for Windows 10

    Hello Voosh,

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. Is the account you are using a child account? Child accounts need to be tied to an adult account through a family in order to have their privacy and online safety settings changed. The way to establish
a family is have an adult account sign in to the
    Microsoft family website
, and add the child account to the adult account's family. The Xbox Settings portion of our website has a section called

    Privacy & Online Safety
where privacy settings can be adjusted. Be sure to let us know the results!
