The game was heavily criticized before it could go public with an open beta and people could make an informed opinion about the game. At the time people were saying this isn't Fable 4 (which it was never meant to be) and going free to play was a bad idea.
Look at the climate we are in ow in the year 2019 with free to play games like Fortnite and the newly released Apex Legends dominating the market. I could bet that these same critics that enjoy those games would have loved Fable Legends had they had a chance
to play the game. Fable Legends was such a great game that on the surface you couldn't even tell that it was free to play and you virtually didn't have to spend anything to be able to enjoy the game at all. If you did spend money, you did because you wanted
to support the devs. The community was great, the gameplay was great (4 heroes vs 1 Dungeon Master who controls traps, creatures, and bosses), and the graphics (UE4) were amazing at the time. I've played Fable and I'm not exactly a die-hard fan of the trilogy
but this game was well done and it was for a period of time my most played game on xbox one at one point (yep a beta). When they canceled this game it really hurt me because I know for a fact it would have been a successful. There was so much you could do
beyond 4 vs. 1 and it was going to continue to grow and evolve like Sea of Thieves is currently doing (mind you sea of thieves was 60$ with minimal content at launch). All that work that the dev and artist team at lionhead erased. Microsoft didn't want to
sell the fable i.p. so that legends would still run and we even wanted to collectively crowd fund the project so the game would survive but we could not get that to happen. Shame on you Microsoft! You "cloud powered" Crackdown 3 that was delayed for what seems
like half a century did not even deliver on what was originally promised and you kill off one of the few interesting games that you had go for you.

    :)

The Microsoft/Bioware/LucasArts Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic series. I know its still going strong on its PC online MMO but like...a classic Star War RPG (and I say this about once a day) is highly over due.

Also the Microsoft/Lionhead Studios franchise Fable. It almost got a nextgen game in the means of Fable Legends...but that got axed by Microsoft and lionhead got closed. R.I.P. :(

Sorry to bump this thread. I just now found a set of of videos that helps describe in detail how the gameplay of Fable Legends worked and pretty much the vision that Lionhead had for the game. If you would like to check it out, you can look at these links
    here:

This will be the final post I will make about this topic and I just wanted to help people understand what the game was and why I miss it so much after playing the beta. Fable Legends was a well made game that took a ton of risks. In my opinion, they way
approached micro-transactions was fair. There was a large pool of heroes players to choose from, each with a unique backstory, look, set of abilities, and different play-styles. If you chose to pay 0$, you still had access to a pool of 4 heroes on a weekly
rotation that you were able to progress with and keep that progression even after they were rotated out. If you found a hero that you loved, you had the option to pay 10-15$ to have permanent access to the hero or you could save enough in game currency to
purchase the hero for an equivalent dollar price. Lionhead put so much effort into devolping/supporting the game that you couldn't even tell you were playing a free to play title. It was amazing! Love went in and love came out. I'm glad I got to experience
it when it was around. Happy gaming.
And to add on to what I, and others have said, it is business, but that doesn't negate your feelings. It's normal to feel sad/mad/bad about having something you've really enjoyed come to an end. I'm sorry it is gone, as I can tell you've enjoyed it, and
I hope you can find something similar you love, and that a return to Fable, when it comes, also brings you joy.

Thank you for those of you who took the time to hear me out. I probably shouldn't have said that stuff about crackdown and I did so only because I was frustrated and I apologize. Fable Legends is never going to come back and in time I'm going to grow and
accept that. I believe it didn't fail because it was a bad game, I think it failed because Microsoft didn't want to take a chance on it. From what I experienced, the game had everything it needed to be successful except time. Every time I played, I was just
mesmerized by the sheer beauty of the game world, the music, the characters, and the creatures. Legends was a very relaxing game to play and it felt very much like a Fable game. The pvp and pve aspect of the game was far from perfect (and they were balancing
it), but it felt like it was done right and it was 100% unique. The only other game that was to legends at the time was evolve and only in the sense that the game centers around 4 players vs. 1. What made legends better (imo) was it had cross-play and that
the game was played through two different perspectives. Also believe it or not, there was plenty of strategy involved (for seasoned players) on the hero side and as well as the villain side based on the selection of heroes, creatures, or bosses used which
is something that most people didn't see even with official and unofficial leaks. A quest that was on the rails was obviously a boring quest, a quest where the villain places his pieces correctly and gets a checkmate is an exciting quest. I could theoretically
play dozens of matches on only one map (player vs. player) and no two matches would play out the same besides the story-line/progression of the chosen quest because of strategy and variety. There was also going to activities and mini-games within the hub/main
town and added exploration outside of that. Just before these things were going to be added or improved upon the plug was pulled and since I enjoyed the game so much, I keep asking myself what if it was still here today? Again, sorry for the rant and hopefully
the xbox team can do something with the Fable i.p. or create a new experience that will impress me as much as legends did, but I have my doubts.

    Great post and thoughts.

Unfortunately, it's just the way the industry works sometimes.

Yes, exactly what I needed. Mindless, arcade-y, collect-a-thon. Perfect unwind game I didn't know I needed. Helps me cool down from when I do poorly after Apex jumps.
