I am sick of Xbox one taking me offline to do updates!

I don't know why I can't set this machine to do updates OTHER than when I'm in the middle of a LONG/TEDIOUS game... this is the worst protocol I have seen in any electronics!

The updates should be allowed to be done at my convenience... not ruining my evening!

I have brought this up to support staff and they didn't have a clue.

This happens even if I don't have auto updates set-up...

Whatever I'm doing, all of a sudden the screen turns black with a picture of the xbox one in the middle... then a message stating I have to do the update to stay online... If I choose not to do the update, it will force me offline...

I bought the original xbox (2, first died just after year), xbox 360 (2, same reason) and now xbox one... well... I am serious considering selling this and buying PS4 and switching... this is the worse way to treat customers!

What the hell?

He keeps bottling me offline which is making me not able to connect to my router. I'm sick of this I called Xbox and they won't do anything

Have you tried doing an offline update? Follow this link and click on "I need to do an offline update" and let me know what happens:

Hello when a new update is released you can manually download it in Settings - System - Update Console.

Only after a period of time has passed will the update become mandatory to install, hence forcing you to do it.

If you do not like this you can enable instant on mode on your Xbox One so when you are not on it and the console gets an update, it will do the update while you are not using it then return back to standby mode.

I already have the xbox one set to:

Power Mode Instant On

and

Automatically Download updates and purchases

Even before, when I did not have this enabled this happened.

I don't think this is true:

" you can enable instant on mode on your Xbox One so when you are not on it and the console gets an update, it will do the update while you are not using it"

I get the same forced download whether I have the machine set for auto update or not.

And how am I supposed to know there is an update to do it manually????

I had the above set already, using he console and it still forced me to do the update.

That is an odd issue indeed. I have the same settings and my console updates for me when I'm not using it. Can you please try power cycling the console by holding the power button on it for 10 seconds until it shuts down to see if that resolves the issue?

Thank you. I am getting the E102 code and I've done everything it says to do EXCEPT for an offline USB update. But the Xbox store just told me the issue a hardware issue and the offline update will not fix it.
