I am new to Minecraft java edition and I can't play multiplayer

I recently got Minecraft Java edition and after opening it numerous times, I can't seem to play multiplayer. I have tried to change my privacy settings, but there're no settings to help me with this. I have tried changing the family safety privacy settings with my parent but we gave up after 15 minutes due to the difficulty of navigating through Xbox and Microsoft sites and not finding anything useful. Does anyone know how to fix this problem or where we can find the correct settings?

Hi there, I have made a picture of the issue. I have changed the settings (Xbox) on the link you provided me with, but after opening minecraft several times I am still unable to play multiplayer.

(My PC could be slow)
