Those "time released" meds like the OPs GT are terribad. People have been abusing them (like all narcs) but they get the full dose, without the "time release" because they inject, crush, do whatever to take it and they overdose with it.

 

I watched a life long friend enter into a downward spiral re: drugs. He wound up crushing pills and stuff, or so I heard from his brother. It landed him in the hospital one day. Now he lives in Florida and is married to a nice gal so it seems he's pulled
himself up by the bootstraps but he was close to checking out due to "prescription" drugs. It was hard to watch but, truth be told, I never actually knew until he was already knee deep in alligators.

 

Oh yeah, prescription ones are the most abused and used.

 

I tend to get hooked on things myself. I smoked and dipped for years but 9 years ago I finally quit. No more tobacco for me! I drink lots of beer but over the last few years have cut it down to a somewhat reasonable amount. I thank God I never once tried
any real drugs (pot ain't a "real" drug imho). I knew me all too well and was too afraid I'd wreck my life. Seeing people snort and stuff all I could ever think about was "you can't miss what you've never tried" so, I never tried.

My mom died at 44 from an enlarged heart. She was taking an absurd amount of prescription pain pills and mixing with alcohol. She could barely keep her eyes opened when ever I saw her....and because I was young when it was going on, I believed she needed
the pills. She told me she had some rare disease which kept her in pain all the time. I felt so bad for her because she would be in the bathroom throwing up if she went a day with out them. Which I now know is because of withdrawals......She even had a
corrupt doctor selling her the pills. When the police caught on to him he had a "stroke" and couldn't be prosecuted.

I wish younger people understood alcohol and drugs are not cool. They are ok in moderation for some people, but those who can't control themselves either don't realize it or wont admit it.

 

Most do understand, however some just simply don't care.
