How's the Xbox One hardware/software reliability?

not sure how the PS works... but with MS and the XB1 they are just now getting their OS and UI where they want it, as well as changing upgrading from owner feedback. Before they get these updates out in the real world for everyone.. a select few were given
the rights to test the build for bugs etc etc.. those people were then allowed to invite more people to test the build... a vast majority of XB1 owners are like beta testers.... using a build that is not yet officially released... from those... a large majority
again are now having a cannot read disc error.... most from the beta but some might have problems... which is common for mass produced electronic tech...

 

I bought a second run machine at the end of February. No hardware issues here, and I play it 15-20hrs a week.

I've got a kid, and understand your reasons for researching... In the end though, I would be saying to you to that no tech can be guaranteed to have zero issues. I'm not in the beta program (which is for upcoming software patches that beta testers provide
feedback on that are continually being rolled out by MS), and I've not had any issues on the software front either.

Do you have any friends with an Xbox One?

 

ive already replaced mine at gamestop once because the kinect stopped working. it cost me 60$ for a 3 year warranty i could redeem only once and now my replacement xbox has no warranty because gamestop wants me to buy another warranty for the replacement.....
i wish i had a reliable machine. my replacement xbox's fan squeaks from time to time and can be very distracting while watching tv. plus my xbox no longer reads any of my disc after downloading the beta update. my brother owns a ps4 and has had no problems
by the way. i feel microsoft has learned nothing from the launch of the 360 in the past and has just as many issues if not more.

 

Thanks for all your time and information folks =) I decided I'm going to give Sony 30 days to see if this next patch fixes things just because how heavily vested I am into the Playstation brand with hardware downloads etc. If after 30 days this isn't 100%
fixed I'll sell everything Playstation I have and jump ship to Xbox One. Again Thanks for all your time and info it really helped me make a decision.

What game are you still getting the ce-34878-0 error for?

That was the save corruption error that had a work around clear back at the end of Jan (safe boot, reset, etc) that worked for some but not others but it's been patched (at least in the US).

 

I can assure you it has not been patched (nor any mention of it being patched yet) as for the reinitialize reboot patch bit done that across three console replacements all exhibit the same issue (along with thousands on the EU support thread) games for
me personally? Tomb raider, battlefield 4,assassins Creed black flag, infamous second son. However if you read the 150+ long thread in the forums the error seems to have impacted near every game minus indie downloads, it's even been impacting video sharing
as of late. Sony only admitted it was an issue and said they were first looking into it as of January 22nd via an article on Redmond pie so with great sadness and frustration I assure you it most definitely has not been patched (though do feel free to read
any patch notes in full for yourself if you doubt me at all)

 

Oh and before it's asked yes I am a US player not EU but everyone is grouping onto that one thread to try to get sonys attention (and failing)

 

@RatKiller I personally think the best warranty and service is via Microsoft via
http://myservice.xbox.com. You can request a repair etc over there and as far as I know when it is within warranty it is free of charge. So my advise would be to do any repair/exchange for the xbox console
etc via Microsoft and not via any store etc.

Regarding the topic.

The console is like others mentioned very quiet and stable. Only the Kinect Sensor failed for me, but this happened during on of the Xbox One Dashboard previews, so that could have caused it.

Normally the preview/beta version don't have any big annoying issues, like the current one is experiencing. Which is still a software issue which will be fixed shortly for any preview participants

I like to add that I personally don't have the Instant On mode enabled, but I have the Energy safe mode selected. Yes it will take longer to load and start up, but it will avoid you experiencing any cache related issues that are still out there and would
need a power cycle.

 

My big issue is that every time i finish one game and switch to a new game it either says the disc is dirty and unreadable or that there is no disk in the drive when there is. I have to do a hard shutdown and reboot to switch games very annoying! Has anyone
else dealt with this? Im not sure if its a software or hardware issue but leaning toward software since it started after the last update. And no there is no grinding noise or anything like that.

 

@HolylightAsc I have both systems in my house and have had no issues with either of them but your one thread about the error code with 150+ posts is nothing and does not represent 1000's of people. I bet out of that 150 post thread there is probably 50 people
max posting.

If you look at all the info out there even on these forums I would say X1 is the less reliable system there are a lot of broken Kinect and bad disc drives out there that is bad hardware. Your issues with PS4 are software related and very very isolated therer
are 7 million out there.

 

Both mine and my sons xbox ones have been flawless the odd bit of lag on the dashboard but cycling the power fixes it.

The controllers though are pretty hit and miss mines on its way back because it was coming apart and the grips are coming loose on my sons, battery's also shake loose.

This is not a problem in de current publically released update of the Xbox One Dashboard, but you are likely participating in the preview update for the Xbox One. The issue you are experiencing is a known issue with the current preview update.

Read through the thread almost every post is a unique poster with the error (and it's been covered by Almost every major gaming website) in addition to Sony admitting it's a problem and "looking into it" you don't waste time on that as a company for 100
cases. Though they are taking their sweet time about it the issue is hardly isolated. None the less waiting the 30 days for next patch if still no fix after 3 console swaps 3 OS rebuilds and trying every troubleshoot out there Xbox One here I come.

 

HolylightAsc you mentioned a specific thread that's what I was responding too. I am aware of your issue I use the Playstation forums and it's a very isolated problem that will be fixed.

I have got 2 or 3 errors since launch and all I do is submit report then re launch the game and it's fine. You should look into a X1 you may be more happy with it but you are going to have a bunch of different problems.

 

Their are several more reports than just that one thread just didn't think I'd have to go into detail since this is an Xbox forum, but trust me it's far from isolated (definitely Not the majority) but not isolated which I'd consider 1-2%. In any case I've
personally done every sony has asked of me and mine does not work after the 30 days I'm done waiting. What exactly do you mean by all new problems with the Xbox One however? Thus far the feedback seems really positive?
