How Xbox can win the next Console Generation (A How to Guide)

As of writing this post the PS5 has sold 80.3 Million units while Xbox Series X/S has sold 32.46 Million copies. Its fair to say that Microsoft has lost and has been losing the console war to Sony ever since the Xbox One came out.

The Xbox One did not sell as well because it did not appeal to gamers, simple as that. However it seems that Microsoft didn't internalize this lesson enough by not learning what people want from a console, a FUN GAMING experience.

My view is that the only way for Microsoft to completely turn around and save Xbox is that they have to do a complete 180 from what the Xbox One tried to be. The way they can do that is to foster to the most fun gaming experience you can have.

I don't speak for everyone but the most fun gaming experience I have had and I know lots of other people have had is In-Person LAN/Couch Co-Op Gaming. There is a huge missed opportunity by not leaning into this underrated gaming experience in my opinion. No consoles lean into this at all, PC is easier however a lot of peoples computers are big and heavy and a pain to bring to a LAN party.

Now bringing this back isn't the only thing they should do. Just bringing back an old feature isn't gonna save Xbox. However what they can do is allow users to play games they don't own as long the host of the LAN party owns it (This can be a Xbox Ultimate Pass Feature so you can actually justify the higher cost).

Example: Lets say the new Halo 7 game comes out, however you don't have a copy but you go to your buddy house and as long you are connected to his network, you get to play the newest Halo game. Given that the host has bought and paid for it or they have access to the game through the Game Pass and they have the Ultimate Pass. This way it lets you try out the game with friends while you're at the LAN party and then when you go home you can decide to purchase the game or get game pass to play it on your own.

You could say this would be too niche of a feature and wouldn't be all that appealing but niche is exactly what Xbox needs right now in order to stand-out from the competition. Plus the older generation remembers what going over to your buddies house and playing video games was like. This can totally be brought back for the next generation that can experience a whole streamlined version of this that just works by connecting your Xbox via a switch or just connecting to Wi-Fi.

TLDR: Xbox should bring LAN gaming back and allow you to play whatever game as long as the host of the LAN party owns the game. You can only play the game while you are at the LAN party and have the option to buy the game or get game pass for it later.
