How Will "The Elder Scrolls Online" Make You Pay?

So this is ultimately being released without the originally planned subscription fee which seems like good news.

But then when you look at the different editions available to buy you've got the Regular Edition, Pre-Order Edition and Imperial Edition.

The Pre-Order Edition comes with the ability to play any race in any alliance...

The Imperial Edition allows you to play as an Imperial...

So wait a minute... does this mean that this game isn't really going to come with all the content after all?

Will I have to pay extra to have an Imperial character?

Will this game be riddled with a bazzillion shops like "Neverwinter" constantly pressuring me to cave and pay for some quality gear or equipment?

Once you've paid for the game... just what other plans have Bethesda got to make you pay?

From what I seen a Crown store where you can buy pets, outfits and mounts with crowns but they are an optional kind of thing. You buy crowns with money. There is a membership that also seems like an optional thing as well called ESO plus.

 

Don't buy,don't play....

And let others enjoy it.....

Pets, outfits and mounts.

In "Defiance" there was a shop. It was unintrusive and offered cosmetic items that had no impact on PVP or even PVE play.

In "Neverwinter" the whole main city is a giant shop constantly reminding you to SPEND SPEND SPEND.

Does TESO take the "Defiance" model or the "Neverwinter" model?

Or is it somewhere in between?

A reply like "Don't buy, don't play... And let others enjoy it" is about as useful as a chocolate teapot for people trying to get information about the game.

 

Judging by what I've read, the store in TESO is mostly cosmetic and the crafting stuff is inferior to base game crafting so you can't buy the best stuff in the game with IRL cash. There is, however, an XP boost apparently, so if you don't like that sort
of stuff, then I guess it could be a problem. I could be wrong as I really don't care about TESO (just give us Fallout 4 already!) but I've read some articles about it and that's what I've gathered

 

It's not going to be like Defiance or Neverwinter. It's going to be like Guild Wars. Don't worry, it's going to be a lot of fun.

I watched some videos of it and from what I've heard, you will NOT require a subscription/pay. That's why COD and Halo and most games don't charge for multiplayer service on Xbox. Because your Xbox Live Gold membership covers multiplayer on Xbox. But it
will require you to be connected to Xbox Live and the game servers in order to play, you can't even play single player without an Xbox Live and game developers servers connection.

 

So does the "Imperial Edition" mean that Imperials as a race are locked behind a Pay Wall?

 

The Imperial race you can get buy buying the imperial edition - which gives you particular race bonuses and the ability to change some armour/items to an imperial style.

You can buy an imperial 'motif' in the crown store which gives you the option to craft imperial bits (not sure if it lets you can change style of existing items)

I got the imp version for pc, imps are not better, just a variation. the horse in the imp version is nice though!

Thankfully I got the xbox copy direct from zen for 12 quid thanks to having the pc version!

In ref to an earlier post ESO is nothing like neverwinter - where you have to spend cash to open loot! Its much more like Guild Wars or Defiance. I looked in the pc crown store yesterday and there were costumes (visual only), mounts (visual only), packs
to buy bits that were in the original pre-order offers, and some health and gems items (both of which you can get in game or buy if you are lazy)

As far as I know the only way you will ever be able to play as an imperial is if you buy that version meaning it won't be available as dlc.

 

for pvkas and others wondering,

there is a Digital Imperial Edition Upgrade in the ingame crown store - apparently updates your standard version to imp version. The description says "Includes all the perks of the Digital Imperial Edition. Ride as a proud Imperial alongside a familiar friend."

Gives a bit of choice to those wanting to try the cheap(er) version first!
