How to use a microphone WITHOUT using a headset?!

Im not sure if anyone knows how to help, but my son wants to play fortnite with his friends, which is allowed, however I dont want him to use a headset as we still want to hear the conversations going on.

Does anyone know how or if we can simply attach a microphone to the xbox 1 s and still have the sound come out of the TV?

This might get confusing, but I'll try to explain my problem the best I can.

I have these studio headphones that don't have a microphone. I want to use them with the xbox because I like their sound and don't want to buy astros. I want to find a way to use an xbox one mic with them (the default mic or possibly apple earbuds), while having the audio and game/party chat go to the studio headphones. Is this possible?

The best i've been able to do is use my headphones plugged into the 3.5mm jack on my TV, and have the default mic plugged into my controller. This lets me talk to people, but the voice goes to the mic, and not my headphones.

I'd appreciate any suggestions or ideas.

I have an elite controller with the jack. Can you be more specific? I was thinking of buying the stereo headset adapter, but would I be able to adjust the voice volume in the headset, or just in the earbuds?
