How to use a external hard drive with EFI system partition on xbox series x to store recordings

    Hello,

I have a Seagate hard drive that is NTFS and I want to use it to store recordings on my series x console. But once I connect to console it always says I need to formatted to NTFS on PC to store recordings.

I formatted several times, and it still not working on my console. I opened disk management and seeing this hard drive has an EFI system partition, and I remembered EFI labelled to this hard drive showing on the screen when I connected this hard drive to my console. I think this EFI system partition is causing the problem, is there a way to get around this?

    Thanks,

    Ray

    :)

Yes, I'vee checked storage devices in console. It allows me browse contents in the hard drive. I do not want to use it store games, because it says if I format that way I can only use this hard drive for console, so I did not choose format using console. When I click use as capture location (not sure the original option name, but something similar) it says I need to format to NTFS use PC.

Hello, thanks for helping. I tried but still not working. I formatted using file explore it still does the same. I checked on disk management it seems like you cannot interact with the EFI. Every time I format only format the basic data partition.

Thanks for trying. When you connect your drive to your console, have you checked your options from the Xbox settings to format it manually?

Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide.
Select Profile & system > Settings > System > Storage devices.

Got it. It looks like your external device is really meant to be used as a game's storage not for media. That's because of the pre-formatting of your drive. Since we've tried everything using a Windows PC, I recommend that you instead reach out directly to Seagate support to help you removing the pre-formatting of the drive. It may require an advanced tools from their end.
