How to use a child's email to connect to X-Box Live?

So I have an X-Box Live account under my email address. My son wants to get on X-Box live. So I created him a new @outlook email address. During creation it prompted me to link it to a parent's account because of his age. I did this. He is now set up with
the email and that's working just fine.

I then went to use this email when doing the "Join X-Box Live" on the console and it tells me to use my parent account online at account.live.com. I've gone there and there is no instruction on how to allow my kid to connect the new email to X-Box Live.
Please provide step-by-step instructions for using a child's account on X-Box Live.
