How to unmute mic on Xbox One S

Has anyone ever got their mic muted and couldn't figure out how to unmute it? Well that is me. I purchased a new headset yesterday thinking that was my problem and that still didn't correct it. I have made sure the headset isn't muted and the volume
is up. I plugged into another controller to see if that works since I read online that works for some and that didn't work. I have went into settings and it appears everything is set up correctly. Does anyone have a solution?

The Recon 70 has a volume control on the left ear and the mic mutes when you raise it. Very simple and straight forward to operate. I'm plugging it directly in to controller.

It could be that the 3.5mm jack socket has got damaged. If you have a friend or another controller try it on that. The adapter that {Parity} mentions is for stereo headsets on the original Xbox One controllers. This has been found to rectify the issues of
a broken 3.5mm jack socket and considerably cheaper than a new controller.

Thanks. I did the hard reset last night and that didn't work. What is a controller adapter? I bought the Turbo Beach Recon 70 headset yesterday. I'm plugging them directly into the jack on my controller.

If the power cycle doesn't work, what kind of headset is it? Does it have it's own controls? One thing to test would be to plug it into a computer and see if the sound system recognizes the input of the microphone to at least rule out that it's not the
headset itself causing the issue.

You might also want to review your
Privacy and Online Safety Settings, which has a section on Communication & Multiplayer that you want to ensure is set to allow you to talk with voice/text/invites.

Try performing a hard reset EXACTLY like this. Hold the power button on the console for 8 seconds or until the power shuts down completely.
Unplug the power cord from the back of the console for 5 minutes.
Plug the power cord back in and restart the console.

If that doesn't help you could try the controller adapter. Some have said that resolved the problem for them. I use an adapter and haven't had the issue.
