How to take off classic gamertag

do finally figured out what the two gamertag problem is. When i changed my gamer tag on xbix support it asked if i wanted a custom gamertag so u did it. Turns out that it was an in game gamertag. So it displays two gamertags. One in game and one anywhere else
including party chat. I went to change it again to turnthe custom off but dont know how to. Id appreciate some help

GT changes don't appear right away, as they take a maximum of 48 hrs to be reflected, but if you've already changed it a scuss of time for the change to appear

The double gamertag is by design, as they transition over to the new gamertag system. Not all games will display the new gamertag system and as stated, your old gamertag will be displayed on 360 backwards compatible games. Any gamertag you create yourself,
is a custom gamertag.

Depending on how you changed your tag, you can have a new gamertag as well as a classic gamertag. The classic tag would show up anywhere that the new gamertag system is not in place. The only way to fix it is to change it again.
