How to stream my .MKV files? Can't get them to show up.

I just bought a Xbox One a couple of days ago and so far I'm liking it, however I would like to use it to stream .mkv files from my PC and I heard this is possible. However, the .mkv files won't play for me and I have no idea why. The XB1 can see my computer
and my computer sees the XB1, it can play all other types of media from my computer just fine but the mkv files won't work. I'm thinking it has something to do with missing codecs on my side as I usually watch those files with VLC media player. However, I
installed the CCCP codec pack which enabled me to watch the videos in Windows Media Player, but it still wouldn't let me watch them on the XB1. I uninstalled those codecs and tried a different codec pack, Shark007(?) which failed half-way through installation
and all I got from that was some malware. How to stream my .MKV files? Can't get them to show up. :(

Any tips? I would really appreciate some help!

    :)

Xbox Media player can't play MKV files.

    According to this ....

    https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/xbox-video/mkv-support

MKV is supported but at this moment I don't see the 'Play To' on my PC to stream.

It seems my Xbox one is updated. I can't see what I am doing wrong unless it is their side. I am in Hong Kong.

  3. Xbox Video and .mkv Files - Help and Understanding

    Hi Everyone,

Excuse my stupidity, I've searched google multiple times, but although I got some clarification I can't seem to find an exact answer to my question. Any help and wisdom would be appreciated.

So my Xbox One is a part of my network and can be seen by my PC. I know that through windows media player, by right click and 'sending to' on a windows media player compatible file, you can stream a video to the Xbox One.

However the part I don't understand is that .mkv files aren't compatible with windows media player, therefore I am unable to do use the method above with .mkv files, But .mkv files are compatible with Xbox Video, on both Windows 8.1 and Xbox One.

My question is there are way I can stream .mkv files from my PC to the Xbox One? Can this streaming of .mkv files be done through Xbox Video on PC? Because I couldn't appear to get it to work. I've added the .mkv files I wanted to watch to my collection
on Xbox Video on my PC, but I assume that this is a local collection and that's why Xbox Video on the Xbox One can't see these files.

Or Am I able to drop the .mkv files on USB and transfer them to the Xbox Once? I have yet to try this but I can do it, that seems to be the easier option.

I hope that makes sense. Again any help or wisdom would be appreciated. Thanks!

Media player preview won't show all my video files! Help!

Download mediainfo on the PC, and check the codecs used in the files that don't show up.

AVI, MP4 and MKV are simply containers, that can contain video/audio streams encoded using various codecs. If the Xbox One can't play the codec, it probably won't display the video file.

That may not be the answer, but it might narrow down any compatibility problems between the player and the actual files.

getting lots of error messages with new update to media player preview (0xc1010107, 0xc00d36c3, 0xc00d5212)

I can confirm *SOME* mkvs will stream properly over DLNA... however, most of them get the "encoding format" error as described above. It seems to be completely arbitrary because all my video files are the same format, yet some will play and some will not

I stream movies and stuff from my computer to xbox 360 all the time, hope they keep that feature but atm it sucks, the 360 can't play .mkv and many other common files types. hopefully the x1 can play any movie or music file.

Xbox One's Media Player App is complete crap

I can stream mp4's and mkv's on the media player.

    1. try renaming the files. sometimes when they're too long they don't show up or won't show up until i rename them.

    2. try with wifi instead of hard wired

    3. you have to go into network and sharing settings and give the xbox one pemission to to view your pc media library.

    4. try different files. go on youtube and download an mp4 and put it on your usb stick and try it.
