How to sort out playing minecraft split screen

Me and my boyfriend play split screen on minecraft all the time, we came on today after the update and tried to start playing it however it wouldn’t let him join on his account, everytime he clicked to join using his account it just kept joining him as a guest instead

He uses his own account to join and I use mine to play on so he doesn’t play in on the guest

I really want this to work or someone to tell me what is going on because we have put a lot of time into playing together

Someone please help me sort this out so we can play together

never mine my console was set at 480 instead of 720, got my info from:

I dont get the point of having to have HD for split screen on a game that has the worst graphics out of every xbox game... my toaster can process minecraft, will i need an HD toaster to play split screen?
