How to save my Videos to /Captures isntead of /AppData/Local/Temp

If you can't find the option accessing the folder, change it on the registry.

Open the Start Menu, type regedit and press enter.

On the registry editor, paste this path on the address bar and press enter:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

On the right side of the window, locate the value {EDC0FE71-98D8-4F4A-B920-C8DC133CB165}, double click it and change the value data to the path you want to the Captures folder.

Default path is:

%USERPROFILE%\Videos\Captures

Restart the computer to apply the changes.

I have a simular issue. I accidentally deleted my "Captures" folder. And now all my captures are being saved to '\AppData\Local\Temp'

I want I created a new Captures folder in my videos, however all my screenshots and video captures are still being saved in 'Temp'

This is a complete CF (in military terms). I moved the capture folder to an external drive, and now that it's no longer connected there is no Capture folder (defaulting to C:\Users\name\AppData\Local\Temp) as a random file.

There is NO WAY to change the folder....

I see that they keep locking threads when they don't have a clue how to answer or address the problem...

If it saved a portion of the video,
this page describes the captures settings for locations. Check that location to see if the video was stored, but not closed out. If not, then it's possible that it might be in a TEMP folder

C:\WINDOWS\Temp (Windows temporary files)

C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\Temp (This folder contain temporary
information while a process is creating other files).

Which you can check if they might be in there? I would say the chance is low, but if it is, it might be recoverable.

I wish I had a better answer, but I'd say to record in smaller chucks of about 30 min at a time, or build in natural breaks, and start new recordings to stitch together later for the full presentation.

I hope they are in the temp folder, let us know and we can provide some suggestions if you need to try and recover.

Yes, I did start by capturing gameplay to ..\Videos\Captures. After, I looked online about how I could change the location of the default capture to a place I felt was suited for it (my external HDD). So I followed steps I found on the Microsoft troubleshoot
pages and It worked. Everything was fine until for some reason, I changed the USB connection for my HDD on my hardware and the path to the "original capture folder" didn't followed the drive letter now assigned to the HDD (which passed from F: to G: ; and
now F: is my Dvd/Cd, removable drive **for some reason**).

Now, I managed to record a video from the Game Bar on Window 10, and upon stopping it, it told me it was saved in C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Temp and I checked: it was. It is named "Settings 2018-11-06 5_05_24 PM" if it can help you with anything.
I tried a screen shot by the same process. It works.
