How to reduce xbox one latency? (ethernet cable?)

Well thats the option i have here in florida for the 90 high speed internet...i have 60m but with everything going on in the hosue at certain hours it sometimes makes my game lag or will drop my internet connection through out the house....hoping upgrading
to the 90 m will fix those issues.

This needs way more views. The redstone lag fix is genius! I always wondered just why the heck it was so doggone hard for the xbox 360 to push a block via a piston. Now it makes sense! It's because it has to update the lighting! This is great info! Thanks!

How to reduce lag...

As we all know, one of the problems we face with the Xbox version of Minecraft is lag. Here is how to fix or ameliorate two of the primary causes of lag are:



- Entity count. Animals, mobs and items on the ground will all cause lag. I once created a 128 block tower extending from bedrock to what was then the sky cap. The tower was only about 20x20, but in it I placed an immense amount of sheep--about 20 floors
of sheep, each of a different color. When people visited my world, their game crashed whenever they approached that tower. Spread your entities out across the map and don't keep them all in a single chunk.



- Redstone - There is a redstone lag that is unavoidable. Block updates and tick calculations take resources. However, the "real" redstone lag is actually very minimal. What most people believe to be "redstone" lag is actually light updates. Whenever
light changes, the game has to update all affected blocks. Light from torches, glowstone, etc. doesn't typically create an issue here because the light is consistent (the blocks don't need to update light amount). However, redstone torches and repeaters
both emit light. The light from these changes not just the block they are on, but all blocks in the vicinity. When activated, most redstone devices cause the torches and repeaters and go on and off repeatedly. Each time this happens, the light levels on
all of the blocks in the vicnity have to be updated. This can happen many times a second. The cumulative affect of all of this is lag. How to fix this? The answer is actually very simple--glowstone. Encase your redstone creations in glowstone. Maximize
the light levels in every corner of your contraption. The light from glowstone is much brighter than the light from redstone, so if you do this well enough, the light levels on the blocks around your redstone torches and repeaters will not change and lag
will be reduced dramatically. This will also help reduce the lag from pistons, since the activation of a piston can cause a block to change from opaque to transparent, at which point light will pass through to other blocks.

My X1 reads a little over 11 down...and a little over 1 up...with a 96 -98 latency...overall i have a good solid connection but not great...hoping that the extra 30 ms makes a difference when i get brighthouse to come to my house...i live in Oviedo right

Sometimes my latency will jump a couple of hundred though for a few minutes during the peek hours around my house...is that due to my router which is a D link N 300m dir 655 or is it my ISP?

 

doubtful it has anything to do with your router, likely cause is you're using all of your available bandwidth causing a bottleneck, or your ISP has hit their bandwidth limit at a point on their network.

 

Anyone got experience with replacing the internet suppliers modem for another , are there any a bit better designed for gaming?

 

I get 54 mbps on my computer but my xbox only gets about 11 down a little over 1 up..gonna upgrade to the 90 m this week.

 

Late last night I had an unusual experience; my latency jumped from the usual 90ms to a whopping 600 (according to the detailed network statistics under the Xbox One settings)! I noticed this after things were failing to load on my Xbox One (via the IE and
YouTube apps as well as matchmaking in at least 2 of my games). I checked my network and everything there seemed fine - I could even run onlie programs there without any problems. Just in case, I reset my entire network and this actually made it worse! It
jumped to over 800ms! It eventually dissipated after an hour or so, but I still don't know what caused this unusual occurrence. I don't think it was my network, but possibly something from Xbox Live. Have any of you experienced anything remotely like this?
Also, it should probably be worth noting that my Xbox One's connection is wireless.

 

@DJ SANDSTORM407, 54mbps showing up on your computer refers to the wireless connection rate between your computer and the router, if you do upgrade your internet connection to 90mbps and run a speed test on your computer afterwards it will cap out at about
54mbps(below that most likely) because that is as fast as your wireless connection can yield.

doing a test through your Xbox will most likely yield lower results also because when you run a speed test from a website on your computer, the test is going to the closest speed test server to your location, the Xbox is connecting to the MS server which
is who knows where, but the further away the Xbox server is, the slower the speeds and high the latency.

 

So you dont think getting the upgrade from 60 to 90 mbps wont make a difference on the X1?

 

Also good to know that its not my router cuzz only the internet modem would go down from time to time for a few minutes. My router never goes down or reboots on me unless i do it myself.

Also i found out that putting my X1 on a wired connection gives alot more consistency with my download and upload speeds on the X1. Wireless would get me the same results but i would lose connection way to many times through the day and i do leave my X1
on all day when im home.

 

if you're already getting 60mbps, i doubt going up to 90mbps will make a difference, i have 30mbps connection at home and when i run a speed test from my computer, it goes to a server that is only about 100 miles away, and always get about 27mbps download
with about 30ms ping times, when i run the network details on my X1, it will come back mostly about 15mbps with about a 70ms ping time, but also referring to ping times, when i go into Titanfall it also shows my ping between 35-38ms.

so, you can always give it shot, but i don't think you'll see a difference. going by your earlier post, i'm guessing it is your Xbox that is saying the latency is really high? if it is(assuming you are using a Windows computer) open a command prompt and
run some pings to other websites at the same time and see if you are getting the same spikes in latency, so use:

ping -t yahoo.com

ping -t google.com

ping -t 8.8.8.8

(8.8.8.8 is the IP address for Googles DNS servers)

if you see your ping times going really high, then there is a problem with your connection and should check with your ISP, if the ping times remain low, but the latency test on the Xbox is still really high, then it is a problem with the Xbox servers and
very little you can do about that.

hindsight, i don't know what region you are in, might have to change some of those ping addresses.

 

Yeah my ping in titanfall is never the same...i get as low as 38 and as high as 51 usually...for the most part its at 45...so us florida people are gonna have slower speeds on the X1 and also i have 3 computers on through about half of the day...I wanted
to upgrade cuzz i cant broadcast without my game lagging i cant handle both but i can run apps along with an online game just fine.
