How to recover an XBox One external hard drive

I had a Seagate 4TB external drive attached to my XBox One. I used it to store game progress. The SATA to USB Connector went bad, and the XBox stopped seeing the drive. I took it out of the case and used a SATA to USB cable to attach it, but the XBox still
does not see it. It doesn't even recognize that a drive is there, although it can see a different drive. When I attach it to my Windows PC, the hardware is detected, but the drive shows unallocated, so I'm guessing there is some corruption. I have downloaded
disk recovery programs, and they find a lot of files, but I have not yet paid for the license to actually recover the files, because I don't know what to do with them once I have them. Is there any way to recover the files and get them back so the XBox can
see them? I don't think that the saves I lost are on the Cloud. Thanks

AH YES you have to go to gamestop they will tell you what to do and they will tansfer all your games and info to a new drive

Could you check:

There are a few things you should try first. They are very simple and intuitive solutions, but they can save you a lot of inconvenience:

1)Restart your Xbox One as it is a quick fix that generally helps in many cases

2)Remove and reconnect external storage device

3)Connect your external storage device to a different USB port on your Xbox One console

4)Check your computer's external hard drive to see if it is recognized.

According to the manufacturer, for an external storage unit to save Xbox One games and apps, it must meet the requirements mentioned below:

1)Use a USB 3.0 connection. If you are using a USB hub, the hub must also be USB 3.0 or higher.

2)It has 256 GB or more of storage capacity.

3)It has a partition.

4)No more than three storage devices are connected to the console at the same time.

If some of the requirements are not met, at least you know it is a hardware problem.

I tried 1-3, and nothing changed. Like I said, the computer sees the hardware, but considers it "unallocated" I assume that means that the partition disappeared. I believe that the connection is USB 3.0, but not sure how to confirm that. So I can try to
find a different SATA to USB, and I can try to recreate the partition without losing the data, correct?

Have you formatted the hard drive? If not, have a look here for instructions on how to do this on the console.
