How to record gameplay on x series x and then transfer to PC to edit

I finally got my Xbox series X. Recording my gameplay was one of the things I was never able to do with my 2001 X, (wasn't willing to cough up the cash for an Elgato device). So glad making vids on the PC was so easy and didn't cost me a penny, really spoiled me.

Anyway, I know the series X comes with a 1 tb SSD but I've read that if one wishes to record their gameplay, they need to purchase a Seagate 1 tb storage card that plugs into the back of the console.

No matter how I word my request on Google search, I can't find is any comprehensible info on how to get the gameplay recordings from the Seagate storage card to my PC so I can edit the junk out. Considering there's 3 USB ports on the console I'm thinking one could somehow load the gameplay files from the storage card to the USB then plug it into the PC.

So;

1. Can anyone help me with the transfer of gameplay recordings from the series X to my PC?

2. Do I need the Seagate storage card before I can begin recording gameplay or is there a way to store it on the internal 1tb SSD?

I currently have controller cables, a charging station and dust filters to cover the intake and exhaust vents.

To ensure I understand correctly

Both a usb connected hdd and or a flash drive will be able to record gameplay via the X and then all I have to do is unplug either from the X and plug into a USB port on my desktop to D/L the footage to the PC for editing?

So the Seagate 1 tb storage card is for installing games to the X console only once the internal SSD is full?

Hi,

The Storage Epansion card from Seagate is for Xbox game installs/downloads. It can't be used to record gameplay, which is why your Google searches were unsuccessful.

All you need to capture externally is an inexpensive USB 3.0 storage device. A suitable flash drive can do it.

best bet is a separate capture card installed in a PC so that the stream can be saved to local storage

The best capture cards are about $400 for professional 4K quality captures

then the PC can be used to edit the raw video stream and trim it etc

1. I read that the recording hdd must be formatted to PC, same thing for the USB?

2. In a number of articles, it says the X will only record 1 hr of gameplay at a time, is this an unbreakable limit set by the console?

Yes, it must be formatted on a PC to NTFS. this applies to HDD's and Flash drives

The max recording is 60 mins and it's hardcoded.

I recommend a well known brand of Flash Drive such as SanDisk. Avoid cheap drives that claim to be 1TB or 2TB (they're fake). I'm not 100% sure on U.S prices (if you're Stateside) as I'm from the UK, but for example, a legitimate 512GB USB Flash drive would be around $40-$50. A 256GB would be around $25-$35.
