How to play with Guest?

How to add a guest (or if you can at all) depends on the game you're trying to play... what game is it?

Did you check How to play Rocket League split-screen (msn.com) ?

It says there "Signing into a guest account allows players to play offline modes together, but they cannot play against other players online." and since you mentioned a guest account that may be something to check.

It would probably make sense to create a child account rather than using a guest account anyways.

Hey there, I don't think you can use the guest profile feature while playing ranked online matches. Though to set up a guest account for the rest of the game:

1.Make sure the second controller is turned on and is not signed in to xbox live.

2.From the main menu select VERSUS then select XBOX LIVE PLAYER MATCH

3.At the bottom of the VERSUS PLAYER MATCH screen you should see this “Y Guest SIGN-IN”

4.On the second controller press Y then select “Guest Xbox Live” from the list that drops down.

5.That’s it, you are now ready to play with your guest

In order to play with a guest, it depends on the game you are playing. Certain games do not allow guests and only allows actual profiles.

I would recommend signing in an actual account and trying to play that way and see if it works or try another game using the guest account.

While this isn't necessarily a Xbox related question, hopefully I can still help out.

It seems that the game is using a online Microsoft account to store game progress and data online; from the context of your issue it may be that both laptops/computers are using the same account so data is continuously syncing between
the two devices... It may be worth creating a new Microsoft account and using that as a seperate login for the game, so the game progress and data remains separate.
