What AmuricanPatriot wrote is correct. If you go to the settings of the console your kids are supposed to play on, sign in with your own account, and in the settings under "Personalization" set the console as your Home Console.

That way your kids can play your games without your account being signed in.

Everyone playing on your "Home Console" also benefits from your Gold membership, as the Home Console also allows everyone to play online multiplayer as if they had a Gold membership as well.

You can read about the Home Console feature here: https://support.xbox.com/games/game-setup/my-home-xbox

So this function is exactly that what you need: Your Home Console allows everyone else to play your games on that console, while you can go to a different console and unlock your games simply by being online with your own account that owns the games.

So your kids can even play multiplayer together with you, for example in Halo, as the Home Console will unlock the digital copy of Halo for your kids, and you can play your Halo version unlocked by your account.

You need to have 2 profiles for the 2 players. If the second person already have a hotmail / outlook / msn / microsoft account of any kind, simply go left on the dashboard, select profiles at the top, click add & manage then add new and get them to sign
in with their account and it will automatically make them an xbox live account with a random name. If they don't have a microsoft account, just do the same step but click "Get a new account" when adding a new profile.

I hope this helps, if not, just reply and I'll try help you as best I can.

we have set up another microsoft account, a tried to invite that user to join game, but no luck.

our son is not old enough to have his own email account, surely two people should be able to play the multiplayer in the same house with two contollers! how to do this is a impossible to figure out! will say XBOX one sucks, really expected a plug and play
device, not interested in access to WIFI and it's drama, two days later and no further along, XBOX ONE, we have had play stations and the XBOX360 and managed to use all of those.....

I have another way you can try now that I am at my console.

Try with the second controller, hit the Xbox Button (Glowing light) then go left to bring the left menu in, then go up and click add & manage then select guest.

Let me know if this works for you.

I would also highly suggest creating an account for your son. You can create an account for him, set it as a child account and you as the adult, then you can set up blocks on what he can see / do from your account. For example, you can set his age at like..
10 for example and he will not be able to access games that are entended for 11 or higher. Also works with being able to hide his profile from the world etc, block people from sending him messages, block him from being able to hear other players. You can even
set it so he can only hear voices of his own friends, then you can monitor who is on his friends list etc. I'm not a parent, but it seems like the ultimate console for making sure your kid isn't going to games you don't wish for them to play etc.

done it now, it is just you cannot set up a gmail account at his age, and from what I can see, you need and email account to set up a microsoft account, the Xbox One is very hard to set up and get going, and set up may be great, but lack of instructions
to get it going is frustrating, we would be happy to have it set up without wifi, but seems to not be a option...

It does walk you through making the first account for the Xbox One during the setup, but adding extra accounts isn't really explained but you can very easily figure it out from 1 google search or by searching Xbox.com.

Also you can plug your Xbox One into your router using an Ethernet cable. But would highly suggest connecting via WiFi as there are no cables involved.
