How to handle Microsoft account for child with divorced parents?

So my son has an xbox account we created for him when he was young. We put it under his mother's Microsoft account when her and I were together. We haven't had any issues about having to share the account, until recently. Mind you I have hundreds of dollars
maybe even more over a thousand spent on digital games I bought him on his account. I have the history of purchases and the credit card that bought them. Almost all purchases under his account was made by me. Mind you also we have shared parenting, but I do
have him 90% of the time if not more. Anyways recently she locked him out of his account while he was with me for her punishment. Trying to find out what rights I might have to the account or would I have to take her to small claims to either get access to
the account or what? I also do not believe she can punish him while he is under my roof!? Thanks for any responses back....

We are all volunteers here in this forum so I do not think you are in the right place for this type of question. The account is in her name so it belongs to her and she can set any limits she wants on the account. You can always request from her to move
the account over or you can add an additional email as an alias to the account. You would need her login to do it and it would be sharing the same password. If you have a good relationship with her this may work out however if it is contentious then............

A lawyer may be your best bet for a question like this.

When my x-wife tried this she got "child already in a family" message or something similar. From what I read if I add my x-wife to "the family" then she can join and then delete me as a member of the family. Is this correct? I think somebody needs to clarify
for every divorced member out there exactly how each parent can have all of their kids on each of their accounts without the other parent seeing their information and credit card data. Thanks.

All family account settings may be viewed and adjusted at Microsoft Family Safety. Please keep in mind that programs that do not allow child accounts are handled by that specific game/developer. These restrictions are typically in place for safety with child accounts.

That logs me into the parent account, not the child account I added to my parent account on Microsoft.
