  4. How to get sound using HDMI on a monitor which don't have speakers?

    TippedKitten693,

If you have external speakers, you should be able to use HDMI and a stereo audio cable at the same time. There are tips

    here
. If sounds like you're trying to use the Xbox Composite cable and an HDMI cable at the same time, which you wouldn't be able to do.

Connecting to an HDMI computer monitor w/ built-in speakers?

Yeah it will. I game on a 1080p monitor with built in speakers. I use HDMI obviously, but I recently got a 360 E so I use the 3.5mm jack on that, with a decent bass unit and speakers, to provide the sound, and I've muted the monitor.

Doesn't seem to matter how good the monitor is... the sound is pretty tinny on them. Up-side is, when they have speakers, they also have a headphone jack, so if you have a decent set you should get rich quality sound and be fine.

My monitor is insanely slim... I guess there's not a lot of room for quality speakers. I'd suggest you get a demonstration of the monitor's sound before you throw down your cash though. {=D

I want to use a computer monitor as my screen to play Xbox 360/One

If your monitor supports HDMI then you just do it like that. However not all monitors support that or have speakers so in order to have sound you'll need a workaround.

If your monitor only supports DVI or HDMI displayport you'll need to get a cable which converts from HDMI to DVI or HDMI to displayport

DVI does not support sound there is however an HDMI to DVI+audio cable, this audio cable is just a regular 3.5mm jack which can be plugged into external speakers so you'll just have to see which works best for you.

And a little footnote, if your resolution on the monitor is smaller than the one you have set up on your Xbox now you might have to reset the resolution on your Xbox.

    There's an
optical output. There are digital to analog audio adapters that cost about $20-$30 and will convert from optical to stereo analog audio.

Playing Xbox 360 on my PC monitor

    Hello,

There's a couple of options you can take and it all depends on your monitors setup.

If you want to use HDMI you need to make sure that you have speakers on your monitor (if you want sound to be coming through the monitor) or that you are using a headset that you can connect and get sound from the XBOX 360 that way. I currently use Astro A40's
so I don't have that issue myself.

The second way you could go about this is to get the XBOX 360 VGA HD AV Cable which would give you video, and an alternative way to get sound. The VGA part of the cable would go into the monitor and the red/white wires coming out would go into either speakers
or the monitor itself. If you don't have speakers with the red/white wire placements you'll need to get a 3.5mm adapter (the red/white will plug into the 3.5mm adapter and you'll be able to plug that 3.5mm into the speakers portion to get sound)

More information about this particular setup can be found here.
