How To Get Faster Download Speeds (Confirmed)

*Disclaimer* This may set your current download back a few percentage points, and may not work for all! --However mine was where it left off but now faster speeds!

So if you was like me and bought a digital download copy of GTA V (yes digital, it was an early christmas gift of MS Currency so I took the bait), then you'll probably see if you go under *Settings* *network* *bandwith usage* in the top left corner under
*current usage* a very slow speed of 990/kbps or below. So I did a little digging on the internet and found a suggestion to go to *network* *advanced settings* *DNS Settings* *manual*
Enter 8.8.8.8 on the primary and 8.8.4.4 on the secondary, then go back, down to *Alternate MAC address* and hit *Clear* --This will restart your console and if you go back through to your *current usage* information you should see faster download
speeds. Mine went from 990kpbs to 3.3mbps (tripled). Dont ask me how/why...I dont know, but it worked..so there you go.

that is the google DNS.. will also make your UI MUCH faster... this all depends on what service you have now... I have Optimum 101, I tried the switch but google was slower... here is some info on what it does..

good info tohellnbak...googles sure did speed mine up, guess if this doesnt work for the rest, try another's dns addy.

I read about this on another forum. The majority of people who tried it seemed to have improved speeds there, too. Internet majicks.

Changing the DNS will not increase your file download speed as its only purpose is to translate web addresses(host names) to IP addresses. However, since there are servers all around the world, there is a chance that whatever DNS server you are using (most
people use their ISPs DNS by default) may not have the best route to the closest server, so there is a chance that using Google's or OpenDNS's servers might get you to a closer server.

 

well it took me 4 hours to download/install 70% of the game before and only about an hour to download the other 30% after...so i'd say changing it did make it faster...it may be like you said and put me to a closer server, but whatever it did, its faster.

DNS cannot make your download faster that's just impossible - it will only route you to the address quicker using googles as they have several hop servers worldwide with cached information for certain addresses

 

U Go 6 FT BeLOW - Did you have multiple installations queued and also doing moves to an external hard drive at the same time as your GTA V install?
