How to format an External Drive

    Hi

When you first connect the external drive to your Xbox One it should recognize the drive and if suitable it will offer you the chance to format the drive to allow it to play games. If this does not work please see

    this troubleshooting
    guide that should hopefully help.

  4. How to format an External Drive

    Hello SAVAG3,

With most new external drive you should be able to plug them right into one of the USB 3 port and the Xbox will recognize it automatically. If this is an Xbox One, go to All setting > System > Storage and you should see on the left hand side [Manage storage]
your Internal and the new external drive. If you selected the new external storage and press the Menu button on your controller you should see the option to format the drive. However, you will see that there are two kinds of formats for the Xbox. If your are
going to use this external drive to play games off of then select for "Games and Apps". The formatting is quick and you can always reformat, and you can always reinstall game and apps you have already purchased. But, be warned, make sure there is nothing on
that drive that you want to save before you format it.

    Good luck and good gaming

    Xbox External HDD for Captures

chromebooks can only format an external drive to exfat, they can read and write to ntfs but there is no option to format to any other file system other than exfat.

    How to Format a Drive

To erase and format the drive, right-click the name of the drive and select “Format Device”. Chrome OS will format the drive with the exFAT file system. There’s no way to choose a different file system, change the drive’s partition layout, or name the drive.

your drive needs to me ntfs

External drive transfer to a new Xbox.

If you have a new external drive. So after you plug him into the console. So the console itself will want to format it into its own format. Then, this disc will no longer be used elsewhere than on the Xbox. Until it is formatted in a PC.

When the console is formatted with this drive, a message appears in the console that connected the External Drive. You can then move games to this external drive via Manage game & apps.
