How to Force 16:9 Aspect Ratio on 16:10 Monitor?

Doesn't work. I've got a 35" monitor, curved and ultrawide. It seems that its stuck in a 16:9 aspect ratio and everything is stretched. There's no option that I know of to change it and none of my monitor settings seem to accomodate it so i have to force
myself to use a 16:9 aspect ratio which leaves two very unsatisfying black strips on either side of the monitor

You will get some serious black bars on the side with the 21:9 aspect ratio on the 29" with consoles which default at 16:9. They are great to use in portrait for secondary monitors or for large displays if you watch a lot of movies, but I wouldn't want one
as my main PC and gaming monitor. For PC work monitors I always liked 16:10 since you can stretch 16:9 and barely notice it. I would go with the 27" 16:9 monitor.

The HD pack is for textures. Has nothing to do with resolution of the screen and aspect ratio. Some Xbox 360 games support both 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios. However, some games only support 16:9 and on a 4:3 device it will letterbox to adjust to 16:9. The
downside is you have less pixels to work with but still get the widescreen advatage (larger peripherals basically). It is up to the developers. Splinter Cell Double Agent did this as I can remember. At least it doesn't stretch and distort the image. I bought
my TV 3+ years ago thinking it was 16:9 720p. Turns out it is 16:10 so every game stretched from 16:9 to 16:10 and distorted the image. After buying a VGA cable and setting it to 1440x900 (a 16:10 ratio), it now sets up a letterbox for me so it runs 16:9.

This does not sound like a problem it just sounds like the aspect ratio of what you are watching is not the same as the 16:9 ratio of your television.

pixel aspect ratio. It explains why pixel aspect ratios other than 1:1 are used as well as how display aspect ratio, pixel aspect ratio, and storage aspect ratio relate to each other.



The really, really short version is that 1024x768 16:9 displays scale the input to fit the available pixels for display.
