How to fix gifting a game?

Games should be purchase and redeemed in the same region. You can return the game and ask for refund from the retailer or if you purchase it from Microsoft store or Xbox site, you can request refund through the online form. To resolve this issue, please try the following steps:

1. Make sure that your friend has redeemed the gift code you sent him. He can do this by going to the Microsoft Store and selecting "Redeem a code" from the drop-down menu.

2. If your friend has already redeemed the code, ask him to check if the game is fully installed on his Xbox. He can do this by going to "My games & apps" and checking if the game is listed as fully installed.

3. If the game is fully installed, ask your friend to try restarting his Xbox. Sometimes, this can help resolve issues with game ownership.

We’ve already tried that what the problem is is I am in the US and he is in Canada. I think the versions are different somehow and he can start the whole game but cannot load into any matches or campaign. He does not own the full game. Do I need to call customer support?
