How to fix download speeds for Xbox app on Windows?

That's quite simple to explain. The Xbox App shows downloads in MB/S (Megabytes per second), the Windows Store shows download speed in Mb/s (Megabits per second)

A speed of 50mb/s = 6.25MB/s

It's the same speed, just a different measurement. Like how home broadband is sold by Megabit speed rather than Megabyte speed.

Remember dial up? A 56k modem was 56Kb/s. Which is around 7 Kilobytes a second.

By the way, the Windows Store isn't just showing the download, this is the application that's doing the download. The Xbox App doesn't actually download anything on its own.

I have done some checking today, downloading things from the Xbox App and MS Store on a network connection that has a maximum of 78MB/s:

MS Store: Download speeds, once they get going, maintain a speed of between 55 and 65MB/s. 80-90% of my maximum speed is acceptable

Xbox App: Download Speeds maintain a speed of between 5-8MB/s.

The XBox App I tried about an hour after trying on the MS Store today so no major difference. Given how buggy and poor the Xbox App is, am not surprised.

Of course, this doesn't help with your slow speeds via the MS Store!

when i go to find the game in the windows store it redirects me to the Xbox Game App, so i have no clue how you guys are finding this as a solution i am still geting 10mb/s and it is utterly insane that this is still an issue in 2022.....

You're not missing anything, they are the same (you can actually open them both and see the same download). People are just confused because the xbox app displays the download speed in megaBYTES per second while the windows store shows it in megaBITS. So it looks like a bigger number, but they're the same speed. The exact same background processes are actually doing the downloading regardless of which app you initiate it from.

I attempted this fix with the wiring and the issue persists. I've also tried to cycle my Xbox and reset and repair the Xbox App and the Windows Store once more, but the issue is still there.

The troubleshooting steps don't have any troubleshooting suggestions related to video issues. I looked through the latency fixes as well, but latency is not an issue as my download speed is over 600 Mbps

I finally managed to fix it, at least for me... was getting 7-9 MB/s and I am now getting 33-40 MB/s. The Windows Auto-tuning level was disabled.

Pause all downloads and close the Xbox app.

Here is what fixed it :

1. Open PowerShell as administrator.

2. Enter this command -> netsh interface tcp show global.

3. For me, the "Receive Window Auto-Tuning Level" was set to disabled.

4. To enable it, enter this command -> netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal

5. You can enter the command at step 2 to validate that the Auto-tuning is set to "normal"

Launch the Xbox app and start the download again. You should see improved download speed. I hope that this helps !

This actually doubled my speed, would definitely recommend this fix. It may not be a complete fix, but it went from 7 mb/s to 15 mb/s
