Are you using windows 10 or 11?

What happens exactly when you try to download the game using the Xbox app?

Are you receiving an error code?

If yes, which one?

Is this happening only with this game or if you try a downloading a different game something similar happens?

And, what did you tried so far to fix this

In the meantime please double check if everything in your system is up to date

Open Settings, click Update and Security and then Windows Update

Click Check for Updates

Click the Download and Install Now option, if available (Install optional updates as well)

Then, check the Microsoft Store for any updates on the Xbox apps and its services and update everything too. (Click on get updates)

I had this exact same issue. I downloaded the companion app (as you said) and then it all worked! After I started up MSFS it told me to sync my cloud data, I pressed continue and now suddenly the new Xbox app works again with my new Microsoft alias email! Definitely something Microsoft needs to fix, but in the meantime, I will need to contemplate how much of my life I wasted re-downloading MSFS... Thanks for your help!

On October 30, 2021, I tried downloading again, and it worked. After the download, I was able to launch MSFS 2020, reinstall all the updates, and fly.
