How to delete everything off a internal hdd for external use on the xbox one.

Hello everyone i need help with my internal hdd. My old xbox one broke my nephews broke it so i wanted to get the internal hard drive to see if i could use it on my next xbox one I just bought as a external hdd, so i can have more memory for games but i
cant find anything to help me. I searched and searched only found how to format so you can use it as internal hdd, was hoping some one knew how i can get it format for external use. I connect it to my pc and everything starts going so slow once i disconnect
it everything goes back to normal speed, and i tried my ps4 hdd and it doesn't do that so can someone please help me?

I know it'll probably faster buying an external hdd (i already have one) but don't want this one to go to waste.

    :)

External HDD Use with 360 S

Hi all, hope someone can help me.

    1) My 360 S had a 500gb internal HDD, can I connect a 2TB external HDD & utilize all the storage space across both devices or does the external HDD "take the place of" the internal.

    2) Is transferring my profile, Arcade games, DLC etc. (basically anything with DRM) to my external HDD ok to do? Basically can I put EVERYTHING on my external HDD or does some content have to stay on the internal drive?

thanks for any help anyone can offer.

  3. External HDD

I just use the external for games. everything else goes to the internal, what ever setting you have system updates always go to the internal HDD.

    Hello Dragelty,

If I understand you correctly, you would like to repurpose the internal hard drive from a broken Xbox One as an external USB drive for a new Xbox One.... Then the answer is yes. It sounds like you have already remove the HDD form your old Xbox. And I assume
you have installed it into an aftermarket USB 3.0 SATA drive enclosure. Then if this external USB HDD is recognized by your PC (in File Explorer under This PC), all you have to do is right click on the external USB HDD and select Format.... Be warned, that
if you do a full format (I recommend not doing a Quick Format) it will take some time to complete. However, if this external USB HDD is not recognized by the PC then you may have to use Disk Management to "Create
and format a hard disk partition
" . Indeed, I would recommend using Disk Management to delete and re-create this USB HDD partition to make sure everything has been remove and it is totally clean. But, be careful. Using these software tools incorrectly
can have disastrous results for your PC. So, make sure and double check everything before you click on the OK button to start any deletion and format.

Everyone having this problem it is SOLVED

Buy an external HDD and move everything on the internal HDD to the external

This will not only cut load times, but make the system run the way it should run. The internal Xbox HDD is garbage.

    Hi,

are you using an external HDD? If yes, I suggest you to stop the installation process, unplug it, power cycle the console and retry to install the game in the internal drive.

If it doesn't work, you can try with a factory reset:

    https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/console/reset-console-to-factory-defaults
Im not using a external, just internal hdd, Ive tried a factory reset that keeps apps and games, but deletes data from hdd, with no luck, Im trying to keep from deleting everything from it, due to I have a few huge size games on my hdd, but its starting
to look like if I want to play subnautica, Im gonna have to go to the extreme and do it

external hdd's are not fast enough for the new series s/x optimised games and therefore have to run off the internal ssd or the new expansion cards, all xbox one games and 360 BC games can run off your external hdd.
