How to create an Microsoft account for Xbox 360

Are you trying to convert your offline profile to a Gamertag? If yes, you can follow the steps below:

Make sure you first have a Microsoft account that does not have an Xbox profile, you can create one by signing in to https://signup.live.com

"1. Sign in to the profile that you want to convert from an offline profile to a gamertag.

2. Press the Guide button.

3. Go to Settings, and then select Profile > Join Xbox Live.

4. Enter your first name, your Microsoft account email address, and your Microsoft account password.

5. Verify the info that’s on the screen.

6. Verify the current privacy settings.

7. Review the Microsoft Services Agreement, and then select I accept."

On Xbox One, Windows 10 and the upcoming Series X, you will need to create a Microsoft account to play games. On the Xbox 360 console you do not have to create a Microsoft account to play.

When I created my Microsoft account it didn't link to my Xbox Live account and it created a new one. How can I get rid of this new xbox account and link my old one?

The Microsoft account is also an Xbox account.

If you want to create a new Xbox account, it's only possible to create a new Microsoft account.

I recommend you to create your Microsoft account from here instead:
https://signup.live.com/signup

Creating the account directly using an Xbox 360 is not recommended.
Once you create the account you can sign in without problems on the Xbox 360

Please be aware that the new account must be created at http://account.live.com and not in the Xbox itself. The transfer had to be done on the 360.
