  1. How to copy/move files from one USB stick to another

    Hi,

I have an 8GB Usb drive which has run out of space, I'd like to copy the content (downloaded games, etc.) to another larger (16GB) drive.

    How can I do this?

I formatted the new drive as FAT32 and copied the various datafiles over but the content isn't recognised when I put the stick in the Xbox360.

    Thanks

    :)

Attempt to transfer data with usb stick failed

It has been formatted by another device. The thing is I can see the files on the stick when I plug it on my laptop. And the transefer finished succesfully according to the xbox. About the option to release the USB drive, I forgot how it was called. I only
have one USB stick I can use and I dont want to format it from the xbox to be able to see how it is called. What I am thinking of doing is buying another stick, get it prepared by the xbox and then move the file that were created by the tranfer onto this new
    drive. Would that work?

Uh oh. You may have a problem with your files now.

Xbox files cannot be read by a pc. As soon as you put a USB drive that has xbox files on it the computer attempts to adjust them to a readable format. This makes them unreadable on the original device by the console. Please double check your 8GB drive
to make sure your console can read the files.

If it can then I'm wrong and you're lucky. If it can't then I'm afraid there's nothing that can be done to retrieve the files that were on the drive if they were game saves.

For future reference you can only transfer files on the console. Go to Settings>System>Storage and select the device you want then press Y to transfer all files to another device.

  5. Hi,

Thanks for the reply. The Xbox360 can still read the original USB stick fine, so at least I haven't lost anything!

It seems that the Xbox creates a hidden Xbox360 directory with various 'datafiles' stored under it.

Simply copying these over to another USB stick doesn't work. I'm guessing that when you 'prepare' a USB stick it must perform other functions?

Going through the prepare option creates datafiles to fill the space on the USB stick but these are presumably empty at the beginning.

My 8gb stick has datafiles 0 to 9 I think. And after preparing the 16gb stick is has 16 datafiles.

I'm not sure if there is anyway to copy them over?

It's a 4gb Xbox so it doesn't have enough space to copy the files to main memory first - for example PvZ Garden Warfare is approx. 7.9gb on its own.

    Thanks

Xbox 360 Memory Unit suddenly shows up as unformatted

I'm sorry for the very late reply.

Others may say to store them on a PC then move them to another USB stick but this cannot be done as the files will be immediately written to a format that the PC can read making them useless anyway.

What do you mean by that? I doubt that by simply copying the files from the USB stick they're suddenly changing their format. The format of the USB stick is NTFS, which the Xbox 360 and a PC can both read. And the USB stick is completely fine, really. The
files just can't be accessed by the Xbox 360 anymore, despite all of them being there. It's just like I wrote in my first post.

Recover data for Xbox360 from PC

I found that, copying files to PC doesn`t corrupt them, I did a little experiment, configued my usb stick under xbox and move to it a theme, them i put usb stick in pc and copy folder to it, them i format usb stick, again cofigure under xbox and copied files
data0001-data0003 to folder on usb, then put usb stick in xbox and everything works fine.

    P.S.

The solve of my problem is:

    1. Format completly usb drive

    2. Configure under xbox as the same space as earlier

    3. Put drive to PC

    4. Copy files data0001-data0033 (in my case, because i set 32gb storage) to folder in drive

    5. Put driver to xbox and be happy :]
