How to Complain to a Developer

How to properly use a beta version to make changes and not scream at the world. Yes, I understand, the game is not due out for MONTHS but with the way games are, they are made to adjust and fix on the fly.

Ah, a realist are you, LSW? Well, no wonder you're so negative-minded. While it's important to look at things realistically, I also like to keep an open mind.

 

I am not sure if this has already been said in the very popular thread GG. As you know, I am a fan of Assassin's Creed. And I personally do not believe the game needs to be a annual release. Ubisoft has already come out and said that they will not think
about changing the release of Assassin's Creed "until sales say otherwise". At least Ubisoft admits sales are what will make them change their formula.

Personally, I believe that is the case for most Publisher's.

 

Well, of course. They'd be suicidal to not follow the money, but that doesn't automatically mean they'll ignore input from their fans (the reasonable, polite ones anyways).

 

I agree. I do believe they listen to the fans. However, with the botched release of Unity (and most games now, release and patch on the go bull crap) you would think they would slow it down. At the behest of the almighty dollar they push their developers
to harsh and unrealistic deadlines.

I understand it is a business. And I understand that they do their best to turn a profit. But at the end of 2014 Ubisoft gave me Far Cry 4 (my choice of the free game) and others the DLC for free. There is no way they made money off of that.

 

Unity was globally beta tested and was clearly not ready for release but was released anyway. To even suggest that Ubi listened to anyone is clearly naive in the extreme.

 

That's just it though; I think the developers do listen. It's the publishers that don't - they're the ones that are pushing for releases sooner so they can make money faster. The developers are as passionate about their games as we are, but if nobody pushes
them, then the game may never come out. So, it's a double-edged sword. The publishers, as you already know, would rather get it out, make the money, and then fix it and/or apologize later. They do this because they've learned by taking risks that people (at
least for now) will still buy the games based upon previous iterations and hype alone. It's all about balancing quality, time, and their budget.

 

Wow, I never realized developers were these wonderfully caring people who are being oppressed by the evil, greedy publishers.

Yes, I am sure there are many developers who care what others think. I am also sure there are developers who are not happy with their job, are lazy, just out for a paycheck, etc. I even bet there are developers who are so egotistical, they would get angry
and cuss out someone complaining about their game (if they were able).

 

Hey, developers are people too! They come with all of the ups and downs that everybody else does...

Publishers however... They're not people. They're evil incarnate.

While browsing my YouTube videos, I stumbled upon the latest - it's just another example of how developers care about your suggestions. They talk about the Halo 5 beta and how we helped them in numerous ways to make the actual game better, talk about the changes they've made as a result of that, and
even feature [tag:IDARB], which again, is dev AND community supported.

 

I do keep an open mind but also realize how life works. We are $ signs, no ifs, ands or buts about it. My negative outlook has gotten pretty far and don't think ill stop anytime soon
