How to change the Xbox privacy settings when I'm not in a Microsoft family, but kept...

I have migrated my Minecraft account to Microsoft account few months ago, and wanted to change my Xbox privacy settings recently.

I found out that I'm not able to change my Xbox settings. It seems like it is because of the issue related to Microsoft family. I've checked the instruction about how to leave my current family group on the page "Why can't I change my privacy settings?". But there's a big problem, I'm NOT even in a single family group (at least I don't remember join any). When I got into the "Family Safety" page, It shows that I'm the only member in the family as well.

I followed the instructions on the page "Why can't I change my privacy settings" and then went to the Microsoft account page. Found out there is NOT even a button named "Family" on the top of my Microsoft account page.

I searched for many resolutions online, but still have none idea about how to leave the family group or how to change my privacy settings in this situation. Please respond to my question ASAP, it feels extremely bad finding out not able to change my privacy settings. Thanks.

    :)

How to change the Xbox privacy settings when I'm not in a Microsoft family, but kept getting redirected to the page "Why can’t I change my privacy settings?"

Thanks for your quick response to my question, I really appreciate the efficiency :)

I understand that my account might be a child account, but are there any ways to make sure about that? It would be great if every single Microsoft users can check whether their account is a child one or an adult one by themselves.

I'm 18 years old now, and in my region (which is Taiwan), I'm surely an adult. I've checked the birthday in my account settings and it is correct. However, my account still seems to remain a child one(?

Please tell me how to change my account into an adult one. And also, tell me if there's any way to check whether my account is a child one or an adult one. Thanks.

Hi LueNing, I hope you're doing great out there despite the issue that you're experiencing. I am an Independent advisor and I am here to help you in regard to your concern.

It may mean that your account is a child account. If you're still a minor kindly ask an adult to add you as a member under a family group via https://account.microsoft.com/family and once you're added ask them to sign in to https://account.xbox.com/settings so they can manage your settings.

I’m having exactly the same problem. How did you fix it? Literally nothing I try is working.

    Unable to join multiplayer Minecraft

Thanks for taking the time to share the screenshot! Yes, that is for sure because of your Xbox profile privacy settings.

Unfortunately, since you have a child account, you cannot change your Xbox profile privacy settings.

You will need to ask your parents to add you to their family group again and then set your privacy settings to allow you to play multiplayer games:

    https://support.xbox.com/help/family-online-saf...

And also, changing your Microsoft account birthdate will not allow you to change your Xbox profile privacy settings. The Xbox profile birthdate is set when you create your Xbox profile and never changes.

Changing the birthdate on your Microsoft account does not change it on Xbox. So there is no other way around it. I'm sorry about that.
