how to change the network server to the nearest?

hello,

i live in Jordan and i have a high ping between 230 ms up to 250 ms, i would like to know on which server i am connecting and also is it possible to choose a different server.

i tried to change the location the the system settings and also tried to change the account region, but i still have the same results.

and i also would like to ask, does all games use xbox live servers or some of them have there own.

Really Slow downloads?

I don´t know how steam works in general but if you get really slow downloads it´s possible that you get not the best akamai server for downloads. What DNS server do you use? (network settings). You can try to change them to google DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
in the Dashboard/Network settings. Then you should get another akamai Server to download.

 

Don't worry about the ping in the network settings app.

You are pinging a server in Seattle no matter where you are in the world.

I'm in the UK and i get a ping of 156 in the settings app. But in Titanfall I have a ping of 24.

Just because the test server is in seattle doesnt mean the game servers are.

Personally I think they should remove the ping test because if they are not going to ping servers in your own region i don't see the point.

 

that explains a lot , thank you Malacath, but i do play call of duty Ghost by Activision. and i usually loss in any face to face challenge, most of my kills are by players who are not aiming at me. and when i view the replay i clearly see the delay on my
avatar.

on the other hand i dont find any lag while playing Fifa14 by ea.games maybe EA games are using there own servers

so i really need to understand if all games use xbox live servers or they may use there own!

that will help me to choose what games to buy...

Some games use a peer to peer system where games are hosted on peoples consoles. If the people in the game are spread around the world you get lag. Also if at least one person has a poor connection everyone lags as well. I think COD is peer to peer at least
partially.

And some EA and Microsoft games use dedicated servers which are less likely to lag than peer to peer unless the servers are on another continent.

 

When i get online i found players from germany and france. But i dont find players from my country or arround.

I read that there is israiel server and this sould be very close, ehy im not on that server?

 

most games don´t run on Servers - they run on P2P an use a form of lag compensation - if it doesn´t work good you have much lag.

Because of the Region and where you connect.

Xbox provides it´s content over akamai Servers. They are spread all over the world. So your DNS Server region decides where you connect !

they are working on the Problem and akamai and google and open DNS wor together to solve this problem.

But the best thing you can do is: use a DNS Server of your country.

Google DNS has no DNS Seven in my country so I don´t use it. Open DNS has a DNS Server in my Country - and with this I can connect to the nearest Server

I tried to change the DNS, i got the same ping but things seem someway better, i was able to make a kill in COD with few bullets rather than wasting the 30 bullet.

Also i was able to hide after few hits, rather than finding my self in sudden death.

 

watch fo the location of your DNS Server - more you can´t do at the moment
